The Lexus ES can be worth the extra money if you’ll use its additional standard comfort features and prefer a more upscale cabin. But in a published comparison of 2026 hybrid trims, the ES 350h Premium starts $13,800 above the Camry Hybrid XSE, while the Camry has a slight estimated fuel-economy edge and more cargo space. For a buyer focused on affordable, efficient daily transportation, the Camry is the stronger value.
What the price premium buys in the compared hybrid trims
Cars.com’s October 1, 2026 comparison lists a starting price including destination of $37,295 for the 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid XSE and $51,095 for the 2026 Lexus ES 350h Premium—a $13,800 difference. These are published starting prices for those named trims, not dealer transaction prices or a universal comparison across every Camry and ES. The article also mixes references to newer ES model years in some sections, so check current local listings and window stickers before relying on a model-year-specific detail. Cars.com’s comparison is a useful reference, not a substitute for a current quote.
Standard equipment and cabin experience
In that trim comparison, the ES 350h Premium includes heated and ventilated front seats, driver-seat memory, a power moonroof, 10-speaker premium audio, a power trunk, and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Camry XSE includes heated seats and a 12.3-inch display; seat ventilation is optional, the panoramic roof is a paid option, and JBL audio is available through a package. These are trim-specific differences, not claims about every ES or Camry.
Cars.com’s reviewer describes the ES materials and controls as more premium, while noting its minimalist cabin routes many controls through the touchscreen. The Camry uses a more conventional dashboard with more physical controls. Whether that feels like an upgrade depends on your preferences: a quieter luxury-oriented presentation may matter more to one buyer than the familiarity of physical controls to another.

Power, fuel economy, and space
In the cited comparison, both hybrids use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder system, one electric motor, a continuously variable transmission, and front-wheel drive. The Camry XSE is listed at 225 horsepower and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 48 city, 47 highway, and 47 combined mpg. The ES 350h Premium is listed at 244 horsepower and 48 city, 44 highway, and 46 combined mpg. These are EPA estimates reported by Cars.com, not results from a road test.
The same comparison gives manufacturer-estimated cargo capacity of 15.1 cubic feet for the Camry and 13.3 cubic feet for the ES. It reports 38.0 inches of rear legroom for the Camry XSE versus 40.7 inches for the ES, but its space table labels the ES as a 2027 model. Treat that rear-seat figure as a different-model-year comparison, not a direct specification for every 2026 ES listing.

When paying more makes financial sense
The Lexus premium is easier to justify when its included features are ones you would otherwise pay to add—or would genuinely miss. Compare the exact vehicles’ window stickers rather than assuming a base Lexus always out-equips a higher-trim Toyota. A well-equipped Camry can narrow some equipment differences, and the $13,800 starting-price gap in these examples is large enough to matter to a household budget.
- Consider the ES if ventilated seats, seat memory, premium audio, a power trunk, or the Lexus cabin experience are high priorities and you value having more of them included in the selected trim.
- Consider the Camry if keeping the purchase price down, getting slightly higher estimated combined mpg, and carrying more cargo are more important than the Lexus’s extra power and luxury presentation.
- Compare actual costs using dealer quotes, the window sticker, financing terms, insurance quotes, and the warranty booklet for the exact model year. The available figures do not establish comparative reliability, repair costs, insurance premiums, resale value, or total cost of ownership.
Cars.com reports basic warranty coverage of 36 months or 36,000 miles for the Camry example and four years or 50,000 miles for the ES example. It lists powertrain coverage of 60 months or 60,000 miles for the Camry and hybrid-component coverage of eight years or 100,000 miles for the Camry versus 10 years or 150,000 miles for the ES. Confirm applicable terms in the current manufacturer warranty documents; coverage can depend on model year and state. Toyota’s specifications page says its vehicle information is for mainland US vehicles and may vary by region or change without notice.

For 2026, there is also an electric ES
The eighth-generation 2026 ES expands the choice beyond hybrids. Lexus announced hybrid and battery-electric versions, with front- and all-wheel-drive options, and described refinement, quietness, and ride comfort as design goals. Those are manufacturer-stated aims, not independent comparative test findings. Lexus’s April 2025 announcement introduces the generation.
In a March 18, 2026 US update, Lexus said the front-wheel-drive ES 350e and all-wheel-drive ES 500e battery-electric models would arrive ahead of the ES 350h hybrid. Lexus listed a 74.7-kWh battery for both BEVs, an EPA-estimated 307-mile total driving range for the ES 350e, and a $47,500 base MSRP for that model, which it then expected in dealerships in April. That launch timing is not confirmation of current inventory; check local listings. The Camry comparison is a hybrid-versus-hybrid decision, not a like-for-like comparison with an electric vehicle. Lexus’s US launch update provides those stated figures.

How to decide between the Camry and ES
- Choose the powertrain first: compare Camry Hybrid with ES 350h if you want a hybrid, or assess ES 350e/500e availability, charging needs, range, and price separately if you want an EV.
- Get current quotes for the exact trims you would buy, then compare out-the-door totals rather than starting prices alone.
- Check each window sticker for the features you value, including seat ventilation, audio, roof, memory settings, trunk operation, and display size.
- Test-drive both and pay attention to ride comfort, cabin quietness, seat comfort, and whether you prefer touchscreen controls or more physical controls.
- Compare cargo and rear-seat needs, then review current warranty terms and local service access before deciding how much the Lexus premium is worth to you.
The 2026 Camry brochure can help identify Toyota’s listed trim equipment, but the actual window sticker for the car you are considering is the better guide to its configuration.
