What is the new Carnival loyalty perk?
Carnival’s updated transition benefit lets guests who earned VIFP Diamond status by August 31, 2026, receive lifetime Diamond status in Carnival Rewards. The company’s current FAQ says Carnival Rewards replaced VIFP Club on September 1, 2026.
The benefit is a status guarantee for qualifying former Diamond members, not a promise that every feature, reward, or redemption will remain unchanged for life. Carnival Rewards has its own rules for earning and using Points and Stars.
What former VIFP members need to do
Transition status is not automatic simply because a guest had a VIFP number. Carnival says former members must enroll in Carnival Rewards and accept its terms to participate and receive applicable transition status. The former VIFP number became the Carnival Guest Number.

- Gift Cards can be redeemed for or on any cruise sold or operated by Carnival Cruise Line, except onboard those sailings operating in a non-USD functional currency onboard. PIN number verification is required for redemption.

- Go to Carnival’s Carnival Rewards and VIFP FAQ and follow the enrollment instructions.
- Enroll and accept the Carnival Rewards terms. Carnival says former Platinum and Diamond members can enroll before the end of 2028 for full transition treatment, subject to its data-retention policies.
- Check the account after enrollment to confirm the transition status appears. If it does not, contact Carnival through its official support channels rather than assuming the old VIFP tier transferred automatically.
How Diamond and Platinum transition benefits differ
Former VIFP Diamond and Platinum members do not receive the same duration of status. The current FAQ describes these transition cases:

The Platinum benefit is not lifetime Platinum. For both tiers, Carnival’s stated transition treatment is subject to its data-retention policies.

How Carnival Rewards differs from VIFP Club
VIFP status was based on sailing days. Carnival Rewards separates its currency for redemptions from its measure of status progress: eligible spending earns both Carnival Rewards Points and Status Qualifying Stars. Carnival’s current FAQ lists a standard earning rate of 3 Points and 3 Stars per eligible US dollar, with exclusions and other eligibility rules applying. Check the current FAQ and program terms for what spending qualifies before estimating earnings.
Points are used for eligible rewards, while Stars determine status. The Diamond transition benefit preserves a qualifying member’s top-tier status without requiring them to rebuild it under the new spending-based system.

Why Carnival says it made the change—and what “being praised” means
Carnival president Christine Duffy described the September 2025 enhancements as recognition for the company’s most loyal guests: “We believe these enhancements recognize our appreciation for the loyalty of our top tier guests.” That is Carnival’s stated rationale, not an independent measure of customer opinion. The official sources reviewed do not report a survey, approval rate, or other evidence showing how many customers praise the perk.
The benefit also evolved after its initial announcement. Carnival first announced a new loyalty program in June 2025, with a planned June 2026 launch and Diamond status described as retained for six years. In September 2025, Carnival announced additional Diamond and Platinum transition benefits, initially using a May 31, 2026 cutoff and June 1 launch. On December 1, 2025, it moved the launch to September 1, 2026, extended the VIFP earning window through August 31, 2026, and said qualifying Diamond members would receive lifetime status. The live FAQ now reflects that effective date and cutoff.
