The cast generally pays for its own filming glam and wardrobe. The exception described by the show’s creator is glam for sofa interview days, when cast members speak directly to camera. That distinction answers the basic question—who pays for all that hair, makeup and styling?—but it does not reveal a reliable season-wide bill for any cast member.
What does production pay for?
Selling Sunset creator Adam DiVello said production provides glam on interview days, when cast members sit on the sofa and talk to camera. ELLE Australia reported his remarks from an interview with Variety: “The only days that we provide glam are on interview days where they sit on the sofa and talk to the camera.” DiVello also described day-to-day clothes and accessories as personal style choices the production did not want to supply. ELLE Australia’s report supports a limited interview-day exception—not a claim that Netflix covers glam for every scene.
What do cast members say they pay for themselves?
Cast accounts indicate that filming-day glam and wardrobe are generally personal expenses. Chelsea Lazkani said in a TikTok quoted by Women’s Health: “On Selling Sunset, we definitely turn it up for y’all … so we get glam to film, for the most part, every single time, and it is out of our own pockets.” She also told Dexerto: “We do not get a wardrobe or glam budget. This is very standard in reality TV… You come as you please.”
Emma Hernan reiterated the point in 2025, telling Us Weekly: “You have to pay for glam, styling and everything yourself.” She also described cast pay as based on the episodes a cast member appears in. That statement about episode-based pay does not establish that glam costs are reimbursed or that any particular cast member’s expenses are covered.

Bre Tiesi similarly told The Washington Post the show did not help with wardrobe costs: “Absolutely not,” followed by, “They don’t help us with anything.” These are cast members’ accounts of their costs and the show’s arrangements; they do not provide a full accounting for every person or expense.
How much can the looks cost?
Reported figures illustrate why personal spending can vary, but they are not a standard cast budget. In 2023, The Washington Post reported that stylists can charge $800–$2,000 per look and that clothing rentals generally cost 20% of retail. Those are reported rates, not proof that every cast member hires a stylist or spends those amounts on each outfit.

A stylist identified as Sammie M told Women’s Health in 2023 that some cast members pay $5,000–$10,000 or more for a custom-made outfit. The same outlet cited Christine Quinn’s earlier claim of close to $1,000 per day on glam in 2020. The custom-outfit estimate applies to some cast members, while Quinn’s figure is a dated individual example; neither establishes what the current cast typically spends.

The choices behind an on-camera look differ by person and by outfit. The Washington Post reported in 2023 that most of the cast members it interviewed used stylists, while some rented clothing through stylists or showrooms. Lazkani said she bought her clothes and did not use a stylist. A custom purchase, a rental and a self-styled outfit are not interchangeable costs.

Available reporting does not provide a verifiable total for any cast member’s spending across a season. It also does not establish whether personal brand relationships, loans, gifts or discounts offset anyone’s costs. So the defensible answer is about who generally pays, not a precise season-long glam tab.
