Amazon said on April 29, 2025, that its Amazon Haul team had considered showing import charges on certain products, but the idea was never approved and would not happen. The clarification followed White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s criticism of the reported proposal as “a hostile and political act.” The episode concerned a possible display, not a confirmed rollout of tariff charges on Amazon product pages.
What Amazon said it had considered
Amazon’s April 29, 2025 statement said the team operating its ultra-low-cost Amazon Haul store had considered listing import charges on certain products. The company added: “This was never approved and is not going to happen.” The statement describes a proposal under consideration by the Haul team, not an approved feature. Amazon’s statement

Why the White House called the reported proposal hostile
At a White House briefing on April 29, press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the reported idea “a hostile and political act.” That was Leavitt’s characterization of the alleged proposal; it does not establish Amazon’s motives or show that the feature was implemented. What the tariff-display story did—and did not—cover
The reports concerned a possible display of import charges alongside certain products. They did not establish that Amazon had launched a tariff-cost feature, or that charges appeared on the main Amazon marketplace. Amazon’s own clarification specifically identified the Amazon Haul team as the group that considered the idea.
