The right venue depends on whether your brand and bag qualify, how much work you want to hand off, and how much you actually keep after fees. Headline payout percentages are a starting point, not a quote. Get an item-specific estimate from each service you are considering, then compare the money you would receive at the same sale price.
Start with eligibility, not the payout headline
Before you ship or list anything, confirm that the service accepts your brand and your bag’s condition. Eligibility rules decide whether a comparison is even relevant.
- The RealReal accepts only designers on its designer list and requires items to meet its quality standards. According to its FAQ, items outside the list, unsellable items, and items with questionable authenticity may be rejected or returned.
- FASHIONPHILE describes itself as luxury consignment. Check its current brand and condition requirements on its consignment page before sending a bag.
- Vestiaire Collective operates as a listing marketplace. Check its seller help pages for the rules that apply to your brand and category, and for the currency and country that apply to your account.
Eligibility also depends on geography. Many readers outside the United States and United Kingdom ask where to sell in their own country. The fee information in this guide comes from US and UK seller pages, so confirm availability and fees locally before you rely on any figure.
How the three main options compare
The table below lists the fee terms each company published on the pages checked on October 8, 2026. These are the company’s own statements, not independent evaluations, and they can change.

Fee math at the same sale price
Comparing percentages directly is misleading when fee structures are tiered or use separate processing charges. Run each service through the same sale price. The examples below are arithmetic from the published fee descriptions. They are not quotes, and your actual result depends on the final sale price and any charges the service applies beyond those described.
- FASHIONPHILE, $1,000 sale: 30% is $300, leaving $700 before any other charges.
- FASHIONPHILE, $5,000 sale: The published description reads as 30% on the first $3,000 ($900) and 15% on the $2,000 above that ($300). The total fee is $1,200, an effective rate of 24%, leaving $3,800.
- Vestiaire Collective, £1,000 sale (UK, GBP): The 12% selling fee is £120 and the 3% processing fee is £30, for £150 in total, leaving £850. This assumes both percentages apply to the sale price. Confirm the base for each on the fee page before you rely on the result.
- The RealReal, $1,000 sale: If an offer equalled the advertised ceiling of 85%, you would receive $850. That figure is the top of an advertised range under the stated conditions, so use it only as an upper bound until you receive an item-specific estimate.
The tiered structure shows why a bag’s price matters. At FASHIONPHILE, a higher-priced bag pays a lower effective rate, so the same brand can produce very different net results depending on its estimated price.

FASHIONPHILE
FASHIONPHILE handles the consignment process and gives consignors an account to track intake, preparation, sale and payment. That tracking is useful if you want visibility without managing buyers yourself. Treat its two-to-ten-week timeline as a typical process duration, not a guaranteed sale date.
The RealReal
The RealReal offers shipping, drop-off, or scheduled pickup where eligible. After intake, it authenticates, photographs and prices accepted items. Its pricing FAQ says it weighs brand resale value, market trends, condition and recency. It also says vintage or rare items may not follow the usual recency pattern. Its FAQ names Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès, Gucci, Cartier and Rolex as examples of brands with high resale value on its service. That is the company’s own guidance, not an independent ranking or a forecast for your bag.

Vestiaire Collective
Vestiaire is a listing marketplace, so the fee structure above is the main cost the seller sees on the GBP page reviewed. Whether a listing service fits you depends on how much time and buyer communication you are willing to take on, which the fee page does not address. Check the seller terms for your country before listing.
How the bag’s details change offers
Brand, condition, recency and rarity all affect what a service can expect to get for a bag. Before you compare offers, gather the exact designer, model, size, material, colour, approximate age, condition notes and any included accessories, plus proof of purchase if you have it. Ask each service to price the same details. An offer that differs sharply from the others may reflect a different assumption about condition or model, so ask why.

Separate processing time from sale time
Processing timelines describe how long a service takes to take in, photograph and list your bag. They do not tell you when a buyer will pay. The RealReal’s 10 to 15 days refers to processing after intake. FASHIONPHILE’s two to ten weeks describes its typical process. Neither is a guarantee of a completed sale. Plan for the possibility that a bag takes longer to sell, and ask each service what happens to an unsold item and whether it can be returned, at what cost.
Shipping a high-value bag
- The RealReal’s FAQ says free shipping labels are available, and that free packing and shipping are available at participating UPS Store locations. Those options vary by shipping method.
- Declared value and additional insurance matter for high-value shipments. The RealReal recommends considering both.
- Follow the service’s packing instructions and keep the tracking number until the bag is confirmed received.
- If you use in-person drop-off, you may not need to buy packaging at all.
A step-by-step process for comparing offers
- Write down the bag’s designer, model, size, material, colour, age, condition and accessories.
- Check each service’s accepted-brand and condition requirements against those details.
- Request an item-specific estimate from at least two services that accept your bag.
- Convert each estimate into expected net proceeds at the same sale price, using the fee terms in the table above and any processing or payout charges the service describes.
- Ask who sets the listing price, how price reductions work, what happens if the bag does not sell, when payment is issued, and what fees or return costs may apply.
- Choose the option with the best net result that fits your timeline and workload, then ship or drop off the bag using the service’s instructions.
Keep a copy of each estimate and the date you received it. Offers and fee terms change, and a dated record makes it easier to see whether a later quote differs for a reason you can verify.
