What viewers were reacting to
The allegation has two parts that are often blurred together. The first is about sourcing: the claim that PRISM was “white labeling jewelry from China,” meaning it resold generic factory goods under its own brand. The second is about similarity: the claim that certain PRISM necklaces looked like listings on Alibaba, the Chinese-owned wholesale marketplace. Those are different questions. Sourcing is about where the product physically comes from. Similarity is about how two product photos look. Neither one, on its own, proves that a design was copied.
How the story developed
- Episode 4 of Season 5 (reported October 9, 2024 by Bravo). Heather Gay tells Whitney that Meredith Marks had said people were talking about PRISM. Whitney responds that she buys from curated vendors and denies buying her jewelry from Alibaba. Bravo’s report also records Heather’s view that Meredith did not seem to be the source of the information.
- Matching photos (reported October 11, 2024 by Reality Tea, hosted on Yahoo Entertainment). This piece walked viewers through product photos being compared on the show, including a gold zodiac necklace and other necklaces. It is an entertainment write-up of the comparison, not a physical product test.
- Season 5 reunion (reported January 23, 2025 by Yahoo Entertainment). Whitney gave her fullest explanation, centered on a placeholder image on the PRISM site.
- WWHL (Bravo highlight, November 2024). The argument shifted to who had spread the rumor, a separate dispute covered below.
All four items are dated 2024 or early 2025. The sources reviewed here do not show any later developments, so anything that happened after January 2025 is outside this account.
Whitney Rose’s response
Whitney’s position, as quoted in coverage, has been consistent. On the October 2024 episode she said a social media account was accusing her of buying her jewelry from Alibaba and that this was not true. At the reunion she repeated the denial in plain terms: “I do not source from Alibaba.” These are her statements. Coverage did not include invoices, supplier contracts, or vendor confirmation that would let a reader check them independently.

The placeholder image explanation
The most specific claim Whitney made concerned a product photo. At the reunion, as reported by Yahoo Entertainment, she said an image on the PRISM site had been supplied by a vendor as a temporary placeholder. She said it was visible for about 48 hours and was replaced after the Vancouver photoshoot. Her quoted words were that the photo “was there for about 48 hours as a placeholder” and was “sent from our vendor — it’s not Alibaba.”
This explanation is useful because it is testable in principle. A placeholder that sat on a live site for two days would leave traces in site archives, vendor emails, or the photoshoot schedule. None of that appears in the coverage, so the explanation remains her account.

The $49 versus $3 comparison
The most-shared number from the controversy is a pair of prices for a gold zodiac necklace: $49 on PRISM and $3 on Alibaba. Reality Tea reported those figures in October 2024. They are the figures as that outlet reported them, not prices checked against the live sites now, and the coverage does not establish that the two listings show the same physical product.
Even if both prices were accurate on the day they were captured, a gap between a marketplace listing and a branded retail price does not tell you much on its own. A $3 wholesale listing and a $49 retail price can both be real without either one indicating copying, because the retail price has to cover far more than the item itself.

Who started the rumor
Bravo’s November 2024 highlight covers a separate disagreement: whether Whitney’s podcaster friend had told her that Lisa Barlow was behind the chatter. The coverage records that dispute. It does not establish that Lisa started the rumor, and readers should not treat the argument over who said what as evidence about PRISM’s sourcing.

- Confirm the products are actually the same. Compare materials, dimensions, clasp type, and packaging, not only the photo. Two necklaces can look alike in a thumbnail and differ in plating or chain.
- Look for a source, not just a resemblance. Similar photos can come from common factory catalogs, and a shared catalog does not prove that one brand copied another.
- Check the date of each listing. Prices and images on marketplaces change, and a screenshot from one day says little about another.
- Treat price gaps as a markup question. A large difference between a wholesale price and a retail price is common across many categories. It shows how much margin a seller takes, not whether a design was copied.
- Keep the sourcing claim and the rumor claim apart. Who spread a claim and whether the claim is true are separate questions with separate evidence.
Where this leaves the story
As of the coverage available, the allegation is a live dispute between what viewers saw and what Whitney Rose says happened. Whitney has denied buying from Alibaba and offered a specific account of a placeholder image. The published reporting includes no independent evidence that either account is wrong, and none that confirms the claim of copying. Anyone repeating the story should describe it as an allegation that was denied, not as a finding.
