The Redwood Holdings takeover of Reading Football Club is complete. The English Football League (EFL) reported on 14 May 2025 that Redwood Holdings Limited finished the takeover after receiving EFL clearance. The club’s current company details list Redwood Holdings Limited as the sole owner of Reading Football Club Limited. The sources we can access do not show any later sale or change of ownership, but they also cannot rule one out, so the detail below separates what is confirmed from what is not.
How the sale developed in 2025
The takeover was not a single announcement. It moved through a proposal, a set of deadlines, and a completion report. The table below separates those stages, because a statement from early in the process does not describe the final terms.
| Date | What happened | What it establishes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 27 March 2025 | Reading FC said exclusivity remained in place with a proposed purchaser. The proposal covered the club, Select Car Leasing Stadium and the Bearwood Park Training Facility. The club also described a security impasse linked to litigation with Rob Couhig, and said alternative security had been proposed through legal representatives. | A snapshot of the process on that date. It is not a description of final transaction terms. | Reading FC club statement |
| 22 April 2025 | The EFL granted Dai Yongge a further extension, to 5 May 2025, to divest his interests. The League said progress had been made toward the proposed sale and that it was monitoring the club’s immediate cash-flow needs. | A deadline extension. It shows the process was still open in late April. | EFL statement |
| 14 May 2025 | Redwood Holdings Limited completed the takeover after EFL clearance. | The completed transaction and its date. | EFL result |
Who owns the club now
The club’s company-details page says Reading Football Club Limited is owned in its entirety by Redwood Holdings Limited. It lists Robert Emmett Couhig Jnr and Todd Trosclair as directors. Those are the most recent ownership and board details we could confirm, and they are the figures to use when describing the current position.
What the sale covered, and what is still unclear
The March 2025 proposal named three elements: the club, the stadium and the training facility. The completion report confirms that the takeover of the club went through. It does not add the asset-level detail needed to say how each element was finally handled, and the sources we checked do not give a price or the financing arrangements. The table compares what is known at each stage.

| Item | March 2025 proposal | Completed takeover (14 May 2025 EFL result) |
|---|---|---|
| Football club | Included in the proposal | Takeover completed by Redwood Holdings Limited |
| Select Car Leasing Stadium | Included in the proposal | Not stated in the completion report |
| Bearwood Park Training Facility | Included in the proposal | Not stated in the completion report |
| Purchase price | Not stated | Not stated |
| Financing terms | Not stated | Not stated |
| Other contractual conditions | Not stated | Not stated |
Readers should not assume the stadium and training ground changed hands simply because they appeared in the proposal. Confirming that would require the completed transaction documents or an official statement that addresses those assets directly.
Rules that apply to any future change of control
The Redwood deal finished before the current framework took effect, so it does not describe the rules a new buyer would face. The EFL’s current guidance says a potential takeover, which it calls an acquisition of control, is subject to two layers of approval: EFL requirements and the Independent Football Regulator’s Owners, Directors and Senior Executives (ODSE) regime. The ODSE regime took effect on 5 May 2026.
Under the ODSE regime, the regulator assesses:
- Honesty and integrity
- Financial soundness
- Financial resources
- Competence
Separately, the EFL requires evidence of the source and sufficiency of funding. According to the League, clearance comes only when the relevant requirements of both bodies are met.
The EFL also says it does not generally comment on change-of-control matters and cannot give a standard timescale, because each transaction differs in complexity. Silence from the League during a sale process is therefore normal, and it is not, on its own, evidence that a club is for sale. We found no current source reporting that Reading FC is for sale.

How to check for updates
- Check the EFL’s news and result announcements for any statement naming Reading Football Club.
- Look up Reading Football Club Limited on the club’s company-details page and on the official Companies House register. Confirm the owner and director listings match the figures above.
- Read the club’s own official statements. If ownership has changed, the club and the EFL are the most likely first sources to say so.
If a later notice names a different owner, a new sale agreement or a new bidder, treat it as a new process. Check it against the ODSE and EFL requirements described above rather than against the 2025 timeline.
