Lay’s potato chips are made in different facilities for different markets, not at one global factory. PepsiCo identifies Lay’s production sites in Poland and Belgium, but the available sources do not identify which plant made a particular bag sold in the United States. A Frito-Lay name or Plano, Texas, address on a package is not proof of where the chips were manufactured.
Where Lay’s are made
Production varies by market. The regional examples below confirm facilities in Poland and Belgium, but they are not a complete worldwide plant list.
Poland
Lay’s Poland says its snacks are produced mainly in Poland and names three production sites: Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Tomaszów Mazowiecki, and Święte near Środa Śląska. These are facts about the Polish market, not evidence that those sites supply other countries. Lay’s Poland’s FAQ also says about 99% of the potatoes used for Lay’s chips in Poland are Polish, and that the company contracts for about 200,000 tonnes of Polish potatoes annually. Those figures apply specifically to Lay’s Poland, not to global sourcing.
Belgium
PepsiCo BeLux identifies a production site in Veurne, Belgium, that makes Lay’s, Cheetos, and Doritos. This establishes another regional production location, not a complete list of facilities. PepsiCo BeLux’s description of its Belgian operations does not provide comparable capacity or output figures for the Belgian and Polish sites.

Are Lay’s chips made in the United States?
The available package example is a 2020 Lay’s Kettle Cooked Sea Salt & Vinegar product PDF. It names Frito-Lay, Inc. and gives a Plano, Texas, address, but does not name the factory that produced the chips. It is evidence of company and package information for that product example—not proof of the manufacturing location, or of current labeling on every Lay’s product.
So the evidence here does not establish whether a specific U.S.-market bag was made in the United States or at a particular plant. Do not infer a factory from the brand owner’s address.

How to check a particular bag
- Check the package itself. Look for country-of-origin wording or other manufacturing details. A company name and mailing address alone do not identify a plant.
- Compare information for the right market. A regional company source may describe production for its own market; do not assume that it applies to bags sold elsewhere.
- Ask Frito-Lay if the package does not answer the question. The company’s product locator searches by ZIP code and can help find products nearby, but it does not reveal manufacturing origin; Frito-Lay advises checking stock with local stores.
Why Lay’s talks about potato varieties
Potato selection is part of making chips, but it does not tell you where a particular bag was produced. PepsiCo says it considers 10 of more than 4,000 registered potato varieties worldwide suitable for Lay’s chips, and that developing a potato for Lay’s can take up to nine years. These are PepsiCo’s 2025 figures. In an October 9, 2025 newsroom statement about the brand’s visual identity, Alexis Porter, Vice President of Marketing, Global Lay’s, described the potato as “where every Lay’s potato chip starts.” That is the company’s description of its product, not a statement identifying a factory.
