The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a nonprofit scientific society that supports chemistry and the people who study, teach, and practice it. It publishes research and chemical information, convenes scientists, offers education and career resources, funds some research and learning opportunities, builds professional communities, and advocates for science. Founded in 1876, ACS describes its mission as advancing scientific knowledge, empowering a global community, and championing scientific integrity.
What does ACS do?
ACS connects people with chemistry knowledge, opportunities, and one another. Its work spans research publishing, scientific meetings, education, careers, grants and scholarships, professional communities, and public-policy engagement. These services are aimed not only at researchers, but also at students, educators, and chemistry professionals.
How does ACS support chemistry?
Research and chemical information
ACS publishes peer-reviewed research and chemical information through journals and databases, helping researchers and other readers find and share chemistry knowledge. See the ACS About page for its current overview.
Meetings and professional communities
The Society brings scientists together through conferences and professional communities, including local sections and specialist divisions. These connections give members ways to exchange ideas and engage with others in their field.
