Luton Town’s latest filed wages figure is £34.54 million. That is the wages line in the company accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025, filed on 28 March 2026. It is total company wages for that year, not a verified player-only payroll, and it is not the 2026/27 squad cost.
A separate, unofficial SalarySport estimate puts Luton’s 2026/27 player wages at £9,595,820 a year across 54 players. The two numbers cover different periods and different scopes, so they should not be presented as a like-for-like fall in wages.
The latest filed figure
The accounts are those of Luton Town Football Club 2020 Ltd. The figures below come from a secondary extraction of the filed accounts, not from the accounts document itself, so check the original filing before quoting any number to the pound. The year to 30 June 2025 covers the season after Luton’s relegation from the Premier League, so the drop in both lines reflects a club playing in the Championship for the full period.

What “wage bill” can mean
The phrase “annual wage bill” is used loosely. Before comparing any two numbers, identify which of these three measures is being used:
- Total company wages. Everything the company recorded as wages in the year. This is the measure in the filed accounts figure above.
- Staff costs. A broader accounting line that can include employer taxes and pension costs, and may cover non-playing staff.
- Playing-squad wages. Pay for first-team players only. This is the measure SalarySport estimates for 2026/27.
The extracted accounts line is labelled wages. The sources reviewed do not break it down between players and other staff, so it should not be described as player wages.

Why the figure fell
According to the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust’s summary of its 2026 account meeting, the club attributed the fall in costs mainly to player contracts that contained relegation clauses. The Trust’s summary reports the following points, which are the club’s explanations as relayed by the Trust rather than figures taken from the accounts themselves:
- Turnover fell to £66.8m from £132.3m after relegation.
- Operating costs fell by £17.9m, principally because player contracts included relegation clauses.
- The club recorded £17.1m of operating profit, which the Trust says was driven by the first year of Premier League parachute payments and significant player trading.
Parachute payments are a fixed-term support for relegated clubs, so the profit figure should not be read as a sign of recurring income. The Trust’s summary is the basis for the explanation here; check the accounts for any figure you want to rely on.

The 2026/27 squad estimate
SalarySport’s estimate is a different measure from the filed accounts. The table sets out how the two compare.

The estimate is a useful indication of the size of the current playing squad’s pay, but it is not a published club figure and should not replace the filed annual number. There is no 2025/26 accounts wage figure to set beside it.

The current season and the year ahead
The Trust reports that Luton still received parachute payments in 2025/26, with a significant reduction in league distributions expected in 2026/27. It also reports the club’s view that staged payments from earlier player sales and squad restructuring would offset part of that decrease, and that the budget had sufficient headroom under the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The latest filing covers the year to 30 June 2025. The 2025/26 wages figure had not been published in the sources checked for this article, so no current-year accounts total can be given. It will appear in the next set of filed accounts.

Where Jack Wilshere fits
According to AS, Luton announced Jack Wilshere as manager on 13 October 2025. SalarySport’s page, accessed 8 October 2026, also lists him as manager. Neither source gives his salary, and the club’s wage figures in this article do not isolate it. For a direct quotation from the club’s statement, use the original club announcement; English wording circulating in translated reports has not been verified against the original.
