Billy Evans, Elizabeth Holmes’s partner and the father of their two children, is reported to have formed Haemanthus, an early-stage diagnostics startup focused on blood and other biological-sample testing. Coverage does not show that the company has launched a product or that its proposed tests are clinically validated. Holmes remains incarcerated, and the most recent reporting gives August 2027 as the target date for her transfer to a Texas halfway house.
What the reporting says Evans is doing professionally
STAT reported in May 2025 that Evans had formed Haemanthus, a blood-testing startup. That report, and the coverage that follows it, describes a proposed diagnostics business. Read the company’s intended capabilities as plans as reported by the press and the company, not as established medical facts. The coverage gives no measured accuracy, clinical performance, or operating reach figure for Haemanthus, so no such number should be quoted for it.
Haemanthus as a proposed business
The company is described as an early-stage venture working on testing of blood and other biological samples. Nothing in the reporting places Holmes in the company’s management, and this article does not suggest otherwise. The table below separates what current coverage supports from what it leaves open.
| Question | Status in current reporting | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Did Evans form Haemanthus? | Reported | STAT, May 2025 |
| Is a finished test on the market? | Not established | Coverage describes proposed testing; no primary evidence of a finished, sold test |
| Has the company shown clinical validation or performance? | Not established | No validation data is reported |
| What is its regulatory status? | Not stated | Current coverage does not address regulatory clearance or authorization |
| Who works there, and what is Evans’s day-to-day role? | Not stated | Current coverage does not describe staffing |
| Has the company launched commercially? | Not established | No launch is reported |
Holmes’s custody status and the reported transfer date
ABC News reported in September 2026 that Holmes remains incarcerated and is scheduled for transfer to a Texas halfway house in August 2027. That is a target date, and custody schedules can change, so it should be read as the reported plan rather than a fixed release point. For the official federal case context, the U.S. Department of Justice publishes a case page for the prosecution.

Family and the documentary
The Daily Beast describes Evans as Holmes’s partner and the father of their two children. This article uses “partner” because the reporting does not confirm marital status. The outlet’s October 2026 report links him to the documentary You Can See Everything, which follows the couple in the weeks before Holmes reported to prison.
What Lance Oppenheim said
Director Lance Oppenheim, quoted in The Daily Beast’s report, said of Holmes and Evans: “Neither of them have seen the film.”
Rank #2
What Nathan Fielder said
The same report quotes Nathan Fielder: “Communication broke down basically, and it was in that state for a little bit.” The remark concerns communication with Evans around the documentary, not his business.
Questions to ask about any startup’s medical claims
When a company is described as offering medical or diagnostic testing, these questions separate a plan from a working product:
Rank #3
- Can a patient or clinician order or buy the test today, and from whom?
- Has the test’s performance been reported against an accepted reference, and is that data available for review?
- Does the company name a regulator and a specific clearance or authorization status?
- Is the claim coming from the company itself, or from independent reporting?

The Associated Press covers Holmes’s case, including John Carreyrou’s book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. It is useful background on the Theranos story, but it is not needed to answer what Evans is doing now.
