The current Choice bundle includes Standard seat selection when you book, a Transferable Flight Credit if you cancel under the applicable rules, and flexibility to make same-day changes when an eligible seat is available. Southwest switched to assigned seating on January 27, 2026, so older references to Wanna Get Away Plus may not match the name used for the current fare.
What does Choice include?
Southwest’s current fare information identifies Choice as “formerly Wanna Get Away Plus.” Its main differences are when you can select a seat and what flexibility you get if plans change:

- Standard seat selection at booking: Choice lets you select a Standard seat when you book. This does not mean every seat type is included.
- Transferable Flight Credit: A qualifying cancellation can result in a credit rather than a cash refund.
- Same-day change flexibility: You may be able to move to another flight on the same travel day if the policy conditions are met.
Southwest’s fare types and benefits page describes the current bundle. Its assigned seating information explains the transition to assigned seats and current fare naming.
Is Wanna Get Away Plus refundable?
No. Choice is not a refundable fare. If you cancel at least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure, you may receive a Transferable Flight Credit under Southwest’s rules. Cancel later and the funds may be forfeited. A current Choice credit expires 12 months after the fare was booked and ticketed; check the credit’s terms for your specific booking.

- The gift that lets them fly to 85+ destinations.
- No fees. No expiration. Ever.
- Gift a getaway because special days deserve special destinations.
- Valid Only For Southwest Airlines Flights
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
A flight credit is not cash, a ticket, or a preserved itinerary. The person using it must book a new flight, and any difference between the credit and the new fare is due. See Southwest’s fare and credit terms for applicable conditions.
Can you transfer a Wanna Get Away Plus flight credit?
Choice’s Transferable Flight Credit can be transferred once between Rapid Rewards members. The transfer moves the credit funds, not the original ticket or itinerary. The recipient books a new trip and pays any fare difference. For Southwest Business bookings, transfers are limited to employees within the organization. Southwest details the restrictions on its Transferable Flight Credits page.

How does same-day change work?
Same-day change is subject to availability, not a guaranteed right to board a different flight. You need an eligible fare and an open seat on another flight between the same origin and destination airports on the same travel day. You must make the change at least 10 minutes before your original scheduled departure. Government taxes and fees may apply, but are refunded under the policy.
If no confirmed seat is available, same-day standby may be an alternative. It is also subject to timing and availability rules. Review Southwest’s Same-Day Change Policy before relying on a same-day move.

Is Choice worth paying more for?
There is no universal break-even price: the fare difference depends on the itinerary and booking conditions. Compare the live Choice fare with the cheaper option and ask what advance Standard seat selection and flexibility are worth to you.
- Choice may make sense if selecting a Standard seat at booking matters to you or if the added same-day flexibility is useful.
- A lower fare may be the better value if you do not need those features and are comfortable with the applicable seat-selection timing and credit rules.
- Do not treat the credit as equivalent to a refund: it has an expiration date, transfer limits, and requires a new booking.
Check the terms shown for your specific itinerary before purchase; the fare name and benefits described here reflect Southwest’s current Choice product, while older booking records may use the Wanna Get Away Plus name.
