Xanadu 2.0 is identified as Bill Gates’s main home, but the six locations linked to Gates-family property are a historical overview—not a verified list of six homes he owns today.

Bill Gates’s best-established current residence is Xanadu 2.0 in Medina, Washington. But six places often associated with Gates-family real estate do not amount to six verified homes he owns today: public reporting describes former sales, uncertain post-divorce ownership and a neighboring home listed for sale, while Gates has been quoted saying, “I have three houses.”

What the six places represent

This is a historical overview of six locations linked in public reporting to homes or land held by Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates as a couple, rather than a confirmed inventory of Bill Gates’s present-day properties. A 2025 Realtor.com account reports Gates saying, “I have three houses,” but says he did not identify which other properties he retained after the divorce. Realtor.com and Architectural Digest do not establish a current, portfolio-wide count through property title records.

Place Reported property or use What is known about status
Medina, Washington Xanadu 2.0, Gates’s main home; roughly 66,000 square feet in published accounts. Identified in recent coverage as his main residence. A neighboring home was listed in February 2026; a listing does not establish a completed sale. Architectural Digest
Indian Wells, California A 13,573-square-foot, six-bedroom home in the Vintage Club. Realtor.com reported the Gates family bought it in 1999 for $12.5 million. Its present ownership is not established in the later account. Realtor.com Realtor.com
Wellington, Florida Several homes and lots in the Mallet Hill community. The 2021 portfolio review reported purchases including one in 2016 and a sale of one home in 2019; it does not establish that Gates personally owns a Wellington house now. Realtor.com
Hobe Sound, Florida A waterfront villa. Reportedly bought in 2009 and sold by the family in 2013 for $5 million. It is a former holding, not a current home. Realtor.com
Rancho Santa Fe, California Rancho Paseana, an equestrian property. The Gateses reportedly bought it in 2014 for $18 million. Present ownership after the divorce is unclear in recent coverage. Realtor.com Architectural Digest
Big Sky, Montana A property associated with Gates at the Yellowstone Club. Architectural Digest cites a 2009 county resolution and reports a transfer to a trust after the divorce; current ownership is unclear. Architectural Digest

Medina: the clearest current residence

Xanadu 2.0

Architectural Digest identifies the Medina compound as Gates’s main home and reports its size at about 66,000 square feet. That figure describes the reported scale of the property, not a public measurement or current valuation. The same publication reported that Gates listed a neighboring four-bedroom home in February 2026. A listing indicates an offer to sell, not that a sale closed or that the property was part of Xanadu 2.0 itself. Architectural Digest

Florida holdings

The 2021 Realtor.com portfolio review describes homes and land accumulated by the Gates family around the time of the divorce announcement; it is not a current title record. In addition to the Hobe Sound villa sale and a Wellington sale shown above, a separate Jupiter Island property was reported sold in 2018. Those reported dispositions should not be counted as current Gates homes. Realtor.com

Del Mar, California

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported in 2020 that Bill and Melinda Gates bought a Del Mar home for $43 million through a Seattle-based LLC, while noting that representatives did not confirm the buyers. Later coverage says ownership of former joint properties remains unclear. The reported price is a transaction figure from 2020, not an appraisal or a statement of present value.
