Amazon’s Seattle Spheres are a plant-filled workplace and conservatory in downtown Seattle, with more than 40,000 plants, according to Amazon. The Spheres are not open for walk-in visits: Amazon’s visitor guide lists free public access on the first and third Saturday of each month by reservation. If you want a more predictable public stop, the separate, free Understory visitor center offers a shorter exhibit.
What are the Amazon Spheres?
The Spheres are part of Amazon’s Seattle campus at 2111 7th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121. They combine four floors of work and gathering space with a large collection of living plants. Amazon says its goal was to create a place where employees could collaborate and the Seattle community could experience biodiversity.
Amazon’s 2023 fact sheet reports more than 40,000 plants representing over 1,000 species from cloud forest regions in more than 30 countries. Those are company-reported figures, not independently audited counts. Amazon says each plant was selected from the Amazon Plant Collection and is cared for by Amazon Horticulture.
The glass structure opened on January 29, 2018. Amazon describes the Spheres as a biophilic-design project intended to reconnect people with nature. The company says exposure to nature can support creativity and reduce mental fatigue; that rationale does not establish that the Spheres themselves caused those outcomes.

Can you visit the Spheres?
Yes, but public access is limited and requires a reservation. About Amazon’s visitor guide says free public visits are offered on the first and third Saturday of each month. Dates and available reservations can change, so check the official public-visit page and current booking calendar before making plans.
- Open the Seattle Spheres weekend public visits page.
- Check the current booking calendar for an available date and reserve a slot through the official site.
- Go to 2111 7th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121, for your reserved visit. The official visitor page asks guests to limit their time inside the Spheres to one hour.
A listed schedule does not guarantee an opening on a particular date. Confirm the calendar rather than relying on the recurring Saturday pattern alone.

The Spheres or Understory: which should you choose?

Choose a Spheres reservation if seeing the conservatory itself is your priority. Understory is a distinct public exhibit, not entry to the Spheres, and suits visitors looking for a shorter interpretive experience.

Amazon’s 2023 fact sheet describes a facade made of 2,643 glass panes, selected for light transmission and energy efficiency. The company says an interlayer in the glass is intended to block infrared wavelengths that can contribute unwanted heat. It also describes living walls made from mesh-grown plant panels.

In a 2022 company feature, Amazon said the building uses more than 150 lights to provide plants with a 12-hour daylight and 12-hour darkness cycle, designed to support them at Seattle’s northern latitude. The same feature says air can turn over up to six times per hour on sunny days. These are Amazon’s descriptions of building operations, not independent performance measurements.
