Was Wells Fargo Affected by the Infosys Data Breach? What’s Known

A report published October 24, 2024 named Wells Fargo among clients affected by a 2023 ransomware attack on Infosys McCamish Systems and said the incident affected six million people. That is attributed reporting—not confirmation that any particular Wells Fargo customer’s information was exposed. The available sources do not identify Wells Fargo customers affected or specify what Wells Fargo-associated data was involved.

What the report says about Wells Fargo

Salar English reported on October 24, 2024 that Wells Fargo was among clients affected by a ransomware attack on Infosys McCamish Systems, an Infosys subsidiary. The article says the attack occurred on October 29, 2023, and was discovered the following day.

The same report names Continental Casualty Company; KN&A, Inc., doing business as The Nolan Financial Group; New York Life Group Benefit Solutions; T. Rowe Price Retirement Plan Services; Principal Life Insurance Company; Prudential Insurance Company of America; and Oceanview Life and Annuity Company. Being named as a client in that report does not establish that every customer of any named organization was affected.

Did the attack affect six million people?

Salar English reported an impact of six million individuals. The retrieved sources do not independently confirm that incident-wide figure through a primary incident notice, and it should not be read as a count of Wells Fargo customers.

The later McNally settlement FAQ describes a U.S. class of people whose information was compromised and says approximately 3.7 million people received individualized statutory notices. That is a settlement notice count, not an alternate way of stating the reported six-million incident impact; the figures refer to different measures.

What information was exposed?

The available sources do not establish which Wells Fargo-associated individuals were affected or what categories of their information were involved. Do not assume that your information was exposed solely because you are or were a Wells Fargo customer. If you received a direct notice, use it to determine what information the notice says was involved and what actions it recommends.

Can you still claim settlement benefits?

The settlement concerns McNally, et al. v. Infosys McCamish Systems, LLC, case 1:24-cv-00995-JPB in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. The settlement site lists a December 1, 2025 claim deadline and a November 3, 2025 deadline to opt out; both have passed. The site does not provide a route to file a new claim after the claim deadline.

The settlement FAQ describes conditional benefits under a proposed $17.5 million settlement fund. They required timely, valid claims and were subject to the settlement’s terms and available funds:

  • Reimbursement of documented monetary losses up to $6,000.
  • Up to two years of credit monitoring with identity theft insurance of up to $1 million.
  • A residual cash payment estimated at about $30, capped at $599 per person and dependent on the number of valid claims and funds available.

These are descriptions of settlement benefits, not current offers to people who missed the deadline.

What to do if you are concerned

  1. Check any direct notice. Follow the instructions in any communication you received about this incident; the report alone cannot determine whether your information was involved.
  2. Contact Wells Fargo about account-specific concerns. Use the bank’s privacy and security page for general security guidance and a route to report suspicious activity.
  3. Respond to suspicious activity promptly. Contact the relevant financial institution through its official channels if you see activity you do not recognize. General security guidance cannot confirm whether you were part of this incident.
