Uber Australia’s 2025 figures put Western Australia and South Australia jointly at the bottom of its state rider-rating table, at 4.78 out of five stars each. The national average was 4.82. Perth also tied with Adelaide for the lowest average among the listed metropolitan areas. Uber published the scores but did not provide sample sizes or a detailed calculation method, so the ranking does not explain why the results differ or establish that a 0.04-star gap reflects meaningfully different rider behavior.
What Uber’s 2025 ranking says
Uber Australia reported a 4.78/5 average rider rating for Western Australia in its December 8, 2025 ranking. South Australia also scored 4.78, so WA was not uniquely lowest. The Australian average was 4.82.

In the separate metro-area list, Perth and Adelaide were both at 4.78; Brisbane and Melbourne were the next-listed cities, at 4.80. These are two different comparisons: WA’s state average is not the same measure as Perth’s metro average. The figures come from Uber’s 2025 ranking announcement.
Why was WA lowest?
The ranking does not say. Uber supplied regional averages, but its announcement does not detail the sample size, the period covered by the regional figures, or the statistical method used to calculate them. It offers no causal analysis showing why WA’s score was lower than the national average.

That means the 0.04-star difference should be read as a small gap between company-reported averages—not proof that WA passengers behave worse, or that the difference is statistically or practically meaningful. The figures also do not reveal how many individual riders had low ratings, or how ratings were distributed within each region. Uber’s announcement does not describe the results as independently audited.
What an Uber rider rating measures
Uber says riders and drivers can rate each other from one to five stars after a trip. Its Help page says ratings are averaged and that individual trip ratings are anonymous: riders and drivers cannot see which person or trip received a particular score. How an individual average is calculated
In a 2022 explanation, Uber Australia said an individual rider’s average was based on their last 500 trips and measured out of five stars. That describes an individual rating, not the method for producing the 2025 state and metro averages. Uber’s 2025 ranking announcement does not say whether those regional figures use the same window. The older explanation also describes a ratings breakdown in the app’s Privacy Centre; consult Uber’s current app instructions because menus can change.
How to check your rider rating
- Open the Uber app and go to Account. Uber’s 2025 announcement says the star rating appears there.
- For a more detailed ratings breakdown, open the Privacy Centre in the app, as described in Uber’s announcement and its 2022 rider-rating explanation.
- If the labels or menu path differ in your version of the app, follow Uber’s current in-app guidance.
What riders can do to make trips smoother
Uber’s advice is practical rather than a guarantee that any particular action will raise an individual score. It recommends being ready when the driver arrives, entering an accurate pickup point, treating drivers and vehicles respectfully, and not pressuring drivers to break the law.

PerthNow reported that an Uber spokesperson cited rushing out and slamming the car door as reasons a passenger might receive a low rating. The spokesperson also said: “A quick hello, being ready at pick-up, treating the car with care and ending the trip on a positive note all go a long way — and the stars tend to follow.” That is the spokesperson’s explanation, not evidence from Uber’s regional ranking that any one behavior caused WA’s average.
