Cardiff City supporters have raised concerns about football expertise on the board, the club’s executive structure and communication with fans. After manager Erol Bulut’s dismissal, the Cardiff City Supporters’ Trust reported on a 27 September 2024 meeting with chairman Mehmet Dalman and Ken Choo. The Trust said its representatives raised concerns about football expertise at board level, the lack of a full-time executive director, communication with the fanbase and the recruitment of a new manager. The account also says Dalman told attendees he had raised the possibility of appointing a Director of Football with Tan, who was unconvinced that the role was necessary. This is the Trust’s summary of what Dalman said, not a direct statement from Tan.
What is reported about Tan’s involvement
In its account of the September 2024 meeting, the Trust said Dalman and Choo described Tan as emotionally and financially invested in Cardiff City, with daily contact on club matters. Separately, BBC Sport reported on 30 May 2025 that Dalman and Choo had spoken to candidates for the manager’s job and presented a shortlist to Tan for a final decision. During the club-colour controversy, Cardiff City said in January 2015 that Tan had asked Dalman and Choo to consult a cross-section of supporters. A club statement attributed to Tan said: “My wish is to unite and make the Club successful”. BBC Sport also reported on the club’s stated recognition that its fanbase was a key asset.
