Vishay announced its acquisition of HiRel Systems on January 17, 2012, and later reported that the deal had closed on January 13. The announcement described the price as approximately $85 million, including repayment of HiRel debt and subject to customary post-closing adjustments. Vishay’s 2012 annual report recorded $85.493 million net of cash acquired—a different accounting basis, not an exact restatement of the announcement figure.
When did Vishay buy HiRel Systems?
Vishay announced the acquisition of HiRel Systems LLC on January 17, 2012. Its 2012 annual report says the acquisition closed on January 13, 2012, and that HiRel’s results were included in Vishay’s Resistors & Inductors segment from that date. The announcement and closing dates differ; the transaction was a 2012 event, not a current deal.
The announcement’s approximately $85 million figure included repayment of HiRel debt and was subject to customary post-closing adjustments. The annual report subsequently recorded $85.493 million net of cash acquired. The figures describe different bases, so they should not be treated as conflicting versions of one unqualified price.
What did Vishay acquire?
HiRel supplied high-reliability transformers, inductors, coils, and power-conversion products. In practical terms, the acquisition added specialist magnetic components and power-conversion products to Vishay’s broader electronic-components portfolio.

Vishay said the portfolio would strengthen its specialty magnetics business and expand its high-reliability inductor and transformer offering. The company identified medical, military, aerospace and aviation applications, along with industrial and commercial uses including renewable energy and test-and-measurement equipment. These were the company’s stated strategic aims; the cited transaction records do not quantify subsequent revenue, market share, or product integration results.
How did Vishay describe the strategic rationale?
In the announcement, Vishay Executive Chairman and Chief Business Development Officer Marc Zandman said the portfolio would enhance its inductors business, particularly custom magnetics for medical, military, aerospace and aviation applications, as well as industrial and commercial uses such as renewable energy and test-and-measurement equipment. President and CEO Gerald Paul said the acquisition fit Vishay’s strategy by strengthening its high-reliability inductor and transformer offering. These statements describe management’s rationale, rather than an independent assessment of the deal.

What do current Vishay product pages establish?
Vishay’s HiRel Systems brand page remains online, but it provides limited detail about current products. Vishay’s transformer catalog lists categories including flyback, forward-converter, push/pull, bridge, LLC resonant, gate-drive, and current-sense transformers. Its custom-standard inductor catalog documents inductor categories. These catalogs establish that Vishay documents transformer and inductor products today; they do not establish that any specific model acquired from HiRel in 2012 remains available.

For a specific component, verify the exact part number and current listing rather than assuming that a historical HiRel product is still sold or in stock. Vishay directs buyers to its authorized-distributor directory and regional sales representatives for sourcing. The cited sources do not confirm stock for any particular HiRel model.
