Valve’s presentation randomized the order within that tier, so it does not reveal which game earned the most.
Which games made the most money on Steam in 2024?
Valve’s Platinum tier—the chart’s group of 12 top gross-revenue performers—included:
- Counter-Strike 2
- Elden Ring
- Destiny 2
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- PUBG
- Helldivers 2
- Palworld
- Apex Legends
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Black Myth: Wukong
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
- Dota 2
The games are members of the same tier, not a numbered ranking. Valve’s chart presentation randomized the order within each tier, so the list cannot show which title earned more than another.
What Valve’s revenue chart measures
Valve published its Best of 2024 retrospective on December 26, 2024, describing it as “A look back at the year’s top sellers, most-played games, top new releases, and more!” (Steam News). The annual charts use data from January 1 through December 15, 2024—not the full calendar year. (Game World Observer)

The top-sellers category is based on gross revenue. Valve’s chart groups games into Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers, with Platinum defined as the top 12. The cited chart material does not disclose each game’s revenue or numerical thresholds for the tiers. It therefore supports identifying the top-tier games, but not assigning dollar totals, estimating sales, or naming a single winner.
Why other Steam charts give a different answer
Steam’s year-end retrospective also includes charts for most-played games and games played on Steam Deck. Those measure player activity, not gross revenue; a title’s presence in one of them does not establish where it stands among earners. (Game World Observer)
Valve’s top new releases chart answers another question. It selects games based on their revenue during the first two weeks after launch, rather than comparing gross revenue across the annual chart’s January 1–December 15 period. (Game World Observer) A launch-window result and an annual top-seller tier are different measurements and should not be treated as interchangeable rankings.
