Motorola Solutions, headquartered in Chicago, was named the No. 1 Best Workplace for Innovators in Fast Company’s 2025 list. The recognition was based on company applications and editorial review, with a separate judging panel choosing the overall winner—not on an employee-satisfaction survey or an independently audited measure of workplace quality.
Who won Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators 2025?
Fast Company’s official LinkedIn publication identified Motorola Solutions as the overall No. 1 company. The publisher reported that Motorola Solutions had invested $13 billion over the preceding decade to enhance AI-driven public-safety tools. That is a company investment figure cited by Fast Company, not a score or prize amount.

The 2025 edition was the seventh annual list. Fast Company said it recognized more than 150 companies after editors reviewed nearly 1,000 applications. Those numbers refer to the edition’s overall recognition and application-review stages; they are not the same as the pool considered for the top award.
How were companies selected?
Fast Company’s methodology, published September 9, 2025, says every winner completed an application covering projects, investment, company-wide programs, and workplace culture. Editors evaluated applications, conducted additional research, and generated scores. For the overall winner, a separate panel reviewed the 125 top-ranked companies and selected No. 1. Category applications were judged solely by Fast Company editors.
#1 Best Overall
The named panelists were Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, chief innovation officer at Manpower Group; Jana Rich, founder of Rich Talent Group; Stefan Seiler, group head of human resources at UBS; Jordan Taylor, cofounder and CEO of Medley; and Brendan Vaughan, Fast Company editor-in-chief.
This is best understood as an editorial recognition informed by company-submitted information, additional research, and judging. The published process does not establish that the award measures employee satisfaction or proves that a given workplace practice caused better innovation results.
What kinds of awards and categories were included?
Alongside the main company ranking, Fast Company published category profiles covering large companies, AI, automation and machine learning, North America, international companies, flexible workplaces, and organizations responding to adversity. The program also named an Innovation Team of the Year and an Innovative Leader of the Year. These category selections are not all one combined ranking: some recognize multiple companies within a cohort or region.
| Recognition | 2025 result or reported detail |
|---|---|
| Overall No. 1 | Motorola Solutions; Fast Company’s official LinkedIn publication reported a $13 billion investment over the preceding decade in enhancing AI-driven public-safety tools. |
| Innovation Team of the Year | Badge, a cybersecurity startup. Fast Company reported its authentication approach reduced user authentication time to 22 milliseconds. |
| Innovative Leader of the Year | Sarah Russell, director of Bellwether at X, the Moonshot Factory. Fast Company described Bellwether as using AI and data to assess natural-disaster risk and support mitigation. |
| Large-company category | 12 companies with more than 1,000 employees were recognized. Examples included American Red Cross, Ardurra, and Chipotle. |
| North America | 14 companies were selected for a category focused on investment in human capital and innovation infrastructure in the region. |
| International | Fast Company described Siemens as one of two companies to appear in all seven annual editions. It reported Siemens generated 5,250 inventions and 2,900 patents in the year before the 2025 article. |
| AI, automation, and machine learning | Fast Company reported Lenovo invested 3.6% of revenue in R&D in the prior year; the category profile also covered Adobe and P&G. |
What workplace practices did the profiles highlight?
Fast Company’s 2025 profiles offer examples of different ways companies organize and support innovation. They are reported examples, not independent evaluations of how effective each practice was.
Rank #3
- Internal idea and venture structures: Ardurra’s internal Innovation Hub, Chipotle’s Cultivate Next venture fund, and Adobe Incubations.
- Dedicated time or structured experimentation: a 48-hour innovation event at Fidelity Information Services and FutureThink’s quarterly “Kill a Stupid Rule” sessions.
- Flexible work practices: examples at Land O’Lakes and Xero.
- Training and invention activity: Siemens’ training and invention work, alongside its reported invention and patent figures.
These examples can be compared along practical dimensions—whether employees can submit ideas, whether they have time or funding to test them, whether internal incubators or cross-functional processes exist, and what outputs the company reports. Those are useful ways to read the profiles, but Fast Company’s stated methodology does not identify them as a formal scoring rubric.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should readers interpret the ranking?
The list signals which companies Fast Company chose to recognize through its application and review process in 2025. Its published figures and company examples provide context for those choices, but they do not by themselves show that every listed practice produced the reported outcomes, that employees experience the workplace uniformly, or that one honoree is a better employer for every worker.
The results are historical: the No. 1 company and category honorees described here are from the 2025 edition, not a current-year ranking. Fast Company’s application page describes the program and categories; when accessed October 8, 2026, it indicated applications were closed.
