Verizon’s reviewed official sources do not publish a representative average monthly consumer wireless bill. The price of a plan is not the same as the amount due: your total depends on your plan and line count, optional services, service address, taxes and government fees, Verizon surcharges, and other account charges.
Why there is no single average Verizon bill
Verizon publishes plan prices and explains bill components, but those figures do not establish what customers typically pay. A one-line account and a four-line household have different plan costs, and their final bills may also include different services and location-dependent charges. Calling a plan price an “average bill” would conflate the advertised base rate with an individual account total.
Verizon Support says: “Your consumer bill includes your plan’s monthly access charges, any monthly charges associated with any optional services you subscribe to, applicable state and local taxes, government fees and Verizon mobile surcharges.” Verizon’s surcharges explanation describes these bill components.
Postpaid plan prices vary by line count
Verizon’s plan comparison page listed the following postpaid base prices per line per month when accessed October 8, 2026. Taxes and fees are additional; these are plan prices, not average or final bill totals. Confirm the current offer and terms on Verizon’s plan comparison page.

| Plan | 1 line | 2 lines | 3 lines | 4 lines |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unlimited Welcome | $75 per line/month | $65 per line/month | $50 per line/month | $40 per line/month |
| Unlimited Plus | $90 per line/month | $80 per line/month | $65 per line/month | $55 per line/month |
| Unlimited Ultimate | $100 per line/month | $90 per line/month | $75 per line/month | $65 per line/month |
Each cell is the listed monthly price per line for that plan and line count, not the household total. For example, the four-line Unlimited Welcome rate shown above is $40 per line per month before taxes and fees; multiply by the applicable number of lines, then account for other charges to estimate the service portion of a household bill.
Verizon’s myPlan page also advertises a specific offer of four new Unlimited Welcome lines for $27.50 per line per month with Auto Pay, plus taxes and fees. That offer is not a general rate or a complete household bill. Check its eligibility and terms on Verizon’s myPlan page.

What can make the total higher than the plan price
Government taxes and fees
Federal, state, and local governments set applicable taxes and fees, which can change. The amount depends in part on the service address; it is not one fixed national add-on. Verizon distinguishes these government-imposed charges from its own surcharges. See Verizon’s explanation of taxes and surcharges.
Verizon mobile surcharges
Verizon describes its surcharges as including a Regulatory Charge, a Federal Universal Service Charge (and, where applicable, a State Universal Service Charge), and an Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge. These are Verizon charges, not taxes or government-imposed fees. Their amounts and application can depend on the plan, features, and device.

Optional services and other account charges
Monthly subscriptions or other optional services add charges beyond plan access. Your account may also include charges not captured by a plan’s advertised per-line price, so use your bill’s itemized detail when investigating a difference.

Verizon’s taxes and surcharges estimator uses a service address and device type to estimate taxes, other governmental charges, and Verizon surcharges. Some charges apply only to part of the monthly charges, depending on plan, features, and device. Treat the result as an estimate, not a substitute for the bill on your specific account.

Prepaid prices are a separate category
Verizon Prepaid lists different rates from the postpaid plans above. Its page, accessed October 8, 2026, lists Unlimited at $50 per month with Auto Pay after a first month at $60, and Unlimited Plus at $60 per month with Auto Pay after a first month at $70. These are prepaid plan prices, not a postpaid average or a universal final bill. Review Verizon Prepaid’s current plans and terms.
The prepaid page also describes loyalty discounts and a price guarantee tied to the then-current base monthly rate. The guarantee excludes taxes, fees, surcharges, one-time charges, additional plan discounts or promotions, and third-party services. Check the current page for eligibility and terms before relying on a quoted price.

- Count the lines on the account and identify whether it is postpaid or prepaid.
- Match the actual plan to the price for that line count; do not use a promotional offer unless your account qualifies.
- List optional services and review the bill for other account charges.
- Use the service address and device details in Verizon’s estimator for a location-specific estimate of taxes and surcharges.
- Compare that estimate with the itemized account bill, which is the relevant figure for what you actually owe.
One scheduled change is worth checking against the date of your bill: Verizon Support says its Wireless Regulatory Charge for voice-capable devices is scheduled to rise from $0.21 to $0.26 per line effective November 1, 2026. This is a scheduled surcharge change, not a monthly-bill average; verify the current amount and effective date with Verizon’s surcharge information.
