The Federal Trade Commission has sued Uber Technologies, Inc. and Uber USA, LLC over alleged Uber One enrollment, billing and cancellation practices. The case is pending in federal court, so the FTC’s claims are allegations—not findings that Uber broke the law.
What is the status of the FTC’s case against Uber?
The FTC filed suit on April 21, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The agency’s case page identifies the case as Federal Trade Commission v. Uber Technologies, Inc. and Uber USA, LLC, docket 3:25-cv-03477, and lists it as pending. The page, last updated May 4, 2026, lists a second amended complaint filed that day. - May 4, 2026: The case page listed a second amended complaint and continued to mark the matter pending.
The official case page reviewed for this article does not list a final decision. Its status is current only through its May 4, 2026 update; it does not establish whether a later court event occurred.
What does the FTC allege?
The FTC alleges Uber’s Uber One subscription practices violated Section 5 of the FTC Act and the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA). In its initial announcement, the agency described ROSCA as requiring online sellers to clearly disclose service terms, obtain consent before charging consumers, and provide a simple way to stop recurring charges. Among other claims, the FTC alleges consumers were enrolled or charged without adequate consent, that important terms were not adequately disclosed, and that cancelling could be difficult. The figures address different things: the first is a price cited in the 2025 pleading, the second is the FTC’s characterization of the cancellation process alleged in the initial complaint, and the third is a later allegation about an internal test. None establishes what a particular subscriber will see in the app today.

No. A complaint states the plaintiff’s claims; it does not itself establish liability. The FTC’s April 2025 announcement said, “The case will be decided by the court.” The case page’s latest listed status is pending, so the allegations should not be described as proven. FTC announcement
