The 180.5 million bushels was an analyst forecast for U.S. soybean crushing in July 2022—not a confirmed USDA result. A Reuters survey of eight analysts put the average at 5.416 million short tons, equivalent to 180.5 million bushels in the contemporaneous report.
What the 180.5-million-bushel figure represents
ADM Investor Services reported the Reuters survey before USDA’s monthly release. The eight analysts’ estimates ranged from 179.0 million to 181.7 million bushels; the median, like the average, was 180.5 million. The phrase “seen at” in the headline means forecast or expected, not already measured.
The contemporaneous market report described the estimate as potentially the second-largest July crush on record, behind 184.5 million bushels in July 2020. That ranking and its comparison figures are as reported at the time, not independently verified USDA records here. What USDA’s monthly crush report measures
USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service publishes Fats and Oils: Oilseed Crushings, Production, Consumption and Stocks monthly. The publication is compiled from facility data and covers oilseed crushing, crude and once-refined oil production, rendering production, and end-of-month stocks for the previous calendar month. The archive lists releases in the series. USDA NASS report and archive.
Crushing soybeans extracts soybean meal and soybean oil. USDA’s Economic Research Service describes demand for both products as relevant industry context; its July 2025 explainer also discusses soybean oil use as a biomass-based diesel feedstock. That broader context does not establish what drove the July 2022 estimate. USDA ERS explanation of soybean crush and demand.

The available figures establish what analysts expected before the release, but they do not establish USDA’s realized July 2022 crush total. Accordingly, 180.5 million bushels should be cited as the Reuters-survey average reported by ADM Investor Services, not as the official USDA result.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- HEIRLOOM VARIETY & HIGH YIELD: Outsidepride soy bean seeds is a robust heirloom strain known for its high yield, producing over 3 bushels per acre more than the popular Manokin variety, making it a valuable choice for maximizing harvest output. This variety is perfect for outdoor gardening enthusiasts looking to optimize their yard space.
- RICH IN PROTEIN & OIL WITH VERSATILE USES: Containing about 18% oil and 38% protein, this soybean variety is perfect for producing high-quality soy bean oil and protein-rich meal. These soybeans can be processed into a wide range of products, including soy milk powder, soy flour, soy protein, tofu, and various industrial non-food products, showcasing its versatility. Ideal for making various soy-based meals such as edamame snacks.
- OPTIMAL PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR MAXIMUM YIELD: For best results, plant soybean seeds at a depth of 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with row spacing between 7.5 and 15 inches, depending on soil type and tillage. This ensures uniform seed placement and optimal growth, adapting well to midwestern states and capturing a significant percentage of non-GMO acres.
- HIGH-PROTEIN ANIMAL FEED: The high-protein fiber left after oil extraction is ideal for animal feed, particularly for poultry and swine industries, which consume over half of the processed soybean meal. This meal is also crucial for cattle, other farm animals, and pets, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients for growth and development. A great addition to feed mixes for cowpeas and other legumes.
- ECONOMIC AND NUTRITIONAL: As the most economically important bean globally, soybeans provide essential vegetable protein for millions and are key ingredients in hundreds of chemical products. A 60-pound bushel of our soybeans seed yields about 11 pounds of crude soybean oil and 47 pounds of soybean meal. Beneficial for producing shelf-stable goods for long-term use.
