The pause on specified country-specific reciprocal tariff rates was set to end at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, and a White House order issued July 31 revised the schedule. The rates reported at the time were not uniform duties on every product, and they are not a guide to tariffs in force today.
What was scheduled to change on August 1, 2025?
The headline referred to the end of a temporary pause on certain reciprocal tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on April 2, 2025. On April 9, the administration paused specified country rates and substituted an additional 10% rate under the order’s terms. On July 7, the White House extended that suspension until 12:01 a.m. EDT on August 1, citing continued discussions with trading partners. The July 7 order set the cutoff; the July 31 order and annex then modified the schedule, with provisions generally taking effect seven days after signing and specified exceptions.
That sequence matters: an announced, threatened, paused, or negotiated rate is not necessarily the final duty on a shipment. The orders cited the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and modified the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. Product coverage, exclusions, origin, entry date, and later legal or executive actions can affect the result.
Which country rates were reported before the deadline?
In a July 31, 2025 article, Forbes reported the following arrangements or announced rates. These figures describe what that article reported at the time; they are not current tariff guidance or a complete determination for any product.

What about Taiwan, Switzerland, Bangladesh, Canada, and Mexico?
Taiwan, Switzerland, and Bangladesh
The Forbes article gave Taiwan at 32%, Switzerland at 31%, and Bangladesh at 37% as examples of rates reverting to April announcements. Those figures belong to the same historical reporting context, not a statement of current duties.

Canada and Mexico
The article discussed Canada and Mexico separately from the reciprocal-rate arrangements above. It reported threatened rates in letters and a further pause for Mexico, and described existing treatment for Mexican goods outside USMCA coverage and certain product categories. Do not infer a rate for a Canadian or Mexican shipment from the country name alone: separate White House actions, USMCA eligibility, product categories, and applicable dates matter.
Why the August 2025 figures are not current rates
The August 1 deadline and the reported country arrangements are historical. Later White House actions describe distinct measures, including Section 301 measures connected with forced-labor investigations and duties affecting certain Canadian products. Those later actions should not be folded retroactively into the 2025 headline. See the July 2026 White House action and the September 2026 action concerning certain Canadian products.

Accordingly, this country list is useful for understanding what was expected around August 1, 2025, not for estimating the cost of importing goods now. The evidence cited here does not establish a complete present-day country-by-country tariff table.
