President-elect Donald Trump announced on November 23, 2024, that he would nominate Brooke Rollins of Texas to be Secretary of Agriculture. That step is now history. The Senate confirmed Rollins on February 13, 2025, by a 72–28 vote, and USDA says she was sworn in the same day as the department’s 33rd secretary. If you searched this headline expecting a pending nomination, the nomination has already been completed.

Timeline from nomination to swearing-in

The path from announcement to office took under three months. The dates below come from the Senate’s nominations record, the Senate roll-call record, the Senate Agriculture Committee, and USDA.

What the November 2024 announcement said

Trump’s announcement described Rollins as the nominee for the department’s top post. In his words: “It is my Great Honor to nominate Brooke L. Rollins, from the Great State of Texas, to serve as the 33rd United States Secretary of Agriculture.” The statement also cited her work on his 2016 Economic Advisory Council, her roles in his administration, and her leadership at the America First Policy Institute and America First Works. Those descriptions reflect the nominating president-elect’s own account, not an independent assessment.

The January 23 committee hearing

The Senate Agriculture Committee, then chaired by Senator John Boozman, held the nomination hearing on January 23, 2025. Boozman opened with the formal introduction: “This morning, we meet to consider the nomination of Brooke Leslie Rollins of Texas to be the Secretary of Agriculture.”

His opening statement focused on the issues he said the department faces: farm input costs, farm-gate prices, the need for producer assistance and a farm bill, conservation, rural infrastructure, and USDA’s wide range of responsibilities. These were Boozman’s stated priorities, not a summary of every senator’s views at the hearing.

Committee action and full Senate vote

On February 3, 2025, the committee released its action advancing the nomination with unanimous support, and Boozman urged prompt confirmation. The full Senate then voted 72–28 on February 13, 2025. The Senate’s roll-call record identifies the vote as Roll Call Vote 53.

Swearing-in

USDA reports that Rollins took office the same day as the vote. In its swearing-in release she said: “It is the honor of a lifetime to serve as the nation’s thirty-third Secretary of Agriculture — and a privilege beyond description to have the trust of President Donald J. Trump, and the opportunity to advance his agenda.”

What these records do and do not establish

The sources above document the nomination, the committee steps, the confirmation vote, and the swearing-in, all in 2025. They do not track Rollins’s decisions or the department’s policy actions after February 2025, and they do not show whether she still holds the office at the time you read this. For current officeholder information, check USDA’s leadership pages and the Senate’s public records directly.

When you cite this story, use the official wording: she was confirmed and sworn in as Secretary of Agriculture in 2025, following a nomination announced in November 2024.

Those figures and quotations come from official government records and the nominating statement. The nominating statement is a political document and should be read as such.
