CNN reported that McLaurine Pinover, the Office of Personnel Management’s communications director, filmed fashion videos in her government office while publicly defending workforce cuts. One video appeared on February 13, the day 20 people on her communications team lost their jobs. That timing creates a pointed juxtaposition, but it does not establish that she filmed during paid work time or violated a government rule.
What CNN reported about the videos
In a March 12, 2025 report, CNN identified Pinover as OPM’s communications director and said the videos were filmed in her office at the agency’s Washington, D.C., headquarters. She modeled professional outfits for Instagram followers and directed them to clothing affiliate links. CNN’s transcript described a $475 skirt shown in a video; it did not identify the skirt’s brand or model. CNN’s report and transcript
Why the February 13 post drew attention
CNN said Pinover posted a video captioned “a moment for mixed patterns” on February 13, the same day 20 people on her communications team lost their jobs. The chronology helps explain why the videos were discussed alongside federal workforce reductions. It does not show when the video was filmed, whether it was made during work hours, or whether its creation was authorized.
What affiliate links do—and do not—show
Affiliate links can allow a creator to receive a portion of a sale when someone buys through a link. Their presence alone does not establish that anyone purchased an item or that the creator received a commission. A secondary account says Pinover told PEOPLE she never earned income from the videos; her earnings have not been independently established here. The same report says her Instagram linked to ShopMy, a platform it describes as enabling commissions on fashion sales, and that the ShopMy page was deleted after CNN’s report. That account does not establish whether she currently has a ShopMy page or what its status was at any other time. The secondary report quoting Pinover

What Pinover and a former OPM communications director said
As quoted in the secondary report, Pinover said: “While I was battling breast cancer as a new mom, I felt so unlike myself. Shortly after, I turned to social media as a personal outlet.” The report also attributed to her the statement: “My focus remains on serving the American people at OPM.” These are her explanations of the videos and her stated focus; they do not resolve questions about filming time or agency rules.
CNN quoted Jack Miller, identified as Pinover’s predecessor as OPM communications director, criticizing the timing: “Your number one job as a leader is to protect and support your people.” That is Miller’s judgment, not an official finding about OPM policy.
