At a White House Tesla event on March 11, 2025, a photographer captured handwritten notes that appeared to give Donald Trump a vehicle sales pitch. The notes, as transcribed by Futurism, included the line: “Teslas can be purchased as low as $299/month or $35k.” Those were figures visible in a photograph and reported the next day—not a current Tesla offer or a documented financing quote.
What the photograph showed
Trump appeared with Tesla vehicles on the White House lawn on March 11, 2025, in an event Futurism described as a show of confidence in Elon Musk. Futurism’s March 12 report, by Frank Landymore, said a photographer’s image made handwritten speech notes visible and transcribed a line presenting Tesla purchases as available “as low as $299/month or $35k.”
The notes also reportedly listed three vehicles and prices, with Full Self-Driving activated:
| Vehicle listed in the notes | Reported figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Model X (Silver) | $112,490 | Futurism said the figure was for a vehicle with Full Self-Driving activated. |
| Cybertruck (Gray) | $114,000 | Futurism said the figure was for a vehicle with Full Self-Driving activated. |
| Model Y (Red) | $59,990 | Futurism reported the figure from the photographed notes; it did not attach the Full Self-Driving qualification to this entry. |
These are amounts the news report says appeared in the notes. They are not independently confirmed transaction prices, a current Tesla price list, or evidence that anyone bought a vehicle at those amounts.

What the $299-a-month line does—and does not—establish
The handwritten line pairs “$299/month” with “$35k,” but the report does not provide financing terms, loan duration, interest rate, down payment, eligibility conditions, or the model associated with the monthly figure. Without those details, the monthly amount cannot be treated as a financing quote or used to calculate the total cost of a vehicle.
The photographed note is a historical claim reported in March 2025. It does not establish what a Tesla costs now, whether the offer was available to the public, or whether the stated monthly payment reflected a specific buyer’s terms.

What Trump said about buying a Tesla
Futurism reported that Trump said he was buying a Tesla “as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk.” That is the rationale attributed to Trump in the report; the account does not establish a separate private motive.
