Published examples differ by model, configuration, country, date and what the price includes. To compare fairly, line up equivalent quotes and normalize taxes, delivery, options and currency.
Why there is no single “Europe” tractor price
Tractor prices vary by country, model year, power class, transmission, cab, precision-ag equipment and dealer configuration. The European Commission’s agricultural prices portal provides periodic member-state information and representative commodity price tools; it is not a current database of tractor transaction prices.
That makes regional averages especially easy to misread. A guide price, a manufacturer’s suggested retail price, a dealer quote, an advertised used price and a completed sale are different kinds of evidence. None establishes a Europe-versus-US premium unless the machines and price terms match.
What the published price examples do—and do not—show
| Example | Published figure and basis | What it can tell you |
|---|---|---|
| European narrow tractors | €30,000 average, with a €17,000–€58,000 range; some specialty types reached €100,000. European Commission staff working paper citing CEMA, 2011. Source. | Historical evidence for a specialty category, not a current price estimate for tractors generally. The paper also reported narrow tractors cost 15–20% more than conventional tractors of comparable engine power, with sophisticated versions up to 50% more. |
| Fendt 724 Vario guide price | €334,715, listed in the Irish Farmers Monthly January 2026 Tractor Guide; guide prices are stated excluding VAT. Source. | A published guide figure, not a verified transaction. It cannot be compared directly with a US quote without matching the model configuration and price basis. |
| John Deere Canada 6 Series utility range | C$382,459 MSRP cash price for the series’ highest-priced product, as of August 2025. The disclosure includes estimated delivery, freight, setup and documentation charges; taxes are additional. Source. | A series ceiling, not a like-for-like price for a particular model such as the 6R 130. |
| John Deere US 6R 130 | The product page provides a route to product and dealer information; the available evidence does not establish a comparable price. Source. | Useful as a starting point for obtaining a US dealer quote, not as a priced counterpart to the examples above. |
CEMA reported that European tractor registrations reached a 10-year low in 2024. That is market context, not evidence that prices rose or fell. CEMA’s report.

How to compare tractor quotes fairly
For new machines, request dated dealer quotes for the same model and configuration. For used machines, compare similar model years, hours and condition, and keep asking prices separate from completed sales. Record the following for each quote:
- Market and timing: country, quote date, currency and exchange rate with its date.
- Machine identity: new or used, model year, exact model, rated power and the definition of power used.
- Configuration: transmission, cab, loader, tires, precision-ag package and other options.
- Price basis: base price or configured price; delivered or ex-works; and any delivery, freight, setup, documentation or dealer fees.
- Deal terms: discounts, financing assumptions and trade-in treatment.
- Taxes: whether VAT or sales tax is included, and whether the buyer can recover it.
- Import costs, if relevant: customs classification, applicable duty and transport.
Taxes and customs duty are not interchangeable. The EU’s TARIC database covers common customs tariff and trade measures but does not contain national VAT rates. Tax treatment depends on the country and transaction.

What used-tractor valuation data can add
tractor-value.com describes its service as drawing on asking and paid prices across 28 European countries and providing model-based valuation reports using comparable machines. That is the provider’s description of a commercial service, not an official European price index. Check the coverage, terms and whether a report distinguishes asking prices from completed prices before relying on it.
A valuation is only as useful as the comparables behind it. Check model, year, hours, condition, equipment and country, and note whether the figure is an asking price or a reported paid price. Do not treat a used-machine estimate as comparable to a new list price.

When a Europe-versus-US premium can be stated
A defensible premium requires dated prices for the same tractor model and configuration in named markets, with dealer charges, delivery and taxes normalized. Until those inputs are aligned, the available figures support no general conclusion that tractors are more expensive in Europe—or less expensive there.
