What to know about the 2026 Halloween mini totes
The current-season report from AOL / Democrat and Chronicle identifies the bags as “Trick-or-Treat Mini Canvas Totes.” It reports a September 30, 2026 store arrival and a price of $2.99 each. That is the reported price for this release, not a guarantee that future versions will cost the same.

A small bag with useful details
In a 2024 Trader Joe’s podcast episode about the mini totes, company speakers described the original bag as a well-made, smaller reusable tote with thick “heavy duck” canvas and two small outer pockets. They said it could work as a little lunch bag or for carrying a small amount. Those comments refer to the original mini tote, not independent testing of the 2026 Halloween version.
Demand surprised the retailer
Matt Sloan, speaking for Trader Joe’s in that podcast, said the bags were “a thing that we didn’t plan for them to be” and that “hundreds of thousands of bags” came in and went out within a week. This is the retailer’s account of the original launch in 2024—not a precise sales count or a figure for the 2026 Halloween release.

Seasonal designs invite collecting and customization
Each Halloween drop can offer a fresh color combination, giving shoppers a reason to look for a new version rather than treating every release as interchangeable. Shoppers have also customized the bags: the Associated Press reported in March 2024 on paint, buttons and embroidery on the original mini totes, while current-season coverage mentions patches, charms and paint. Those are examples of shopper behavior, not a claim that the retailer sells customization supplies.
How the Halloween releases compare
The 2025 and 2026 bags are separate seasonal releases. A previous year’s colors or specifications should not be assumed to carry over.

What the resale buzz does—and does not—tell you
Viral attention has included resale listings, but asking prices are not the same as completed sales or a reliable measure of current value. In March 2024, the Associated Press described third-party listings ranging from about $20 for one bag to as much as $999 for a set of four. Those were historical asking prices reported at the time; they do not establish what buyers paid or what a bag is worth now.
