Was there really a £4.5 billion bid for Tottenham?
Media coverage put a proposed valuation for Tottenham at £4.5 billion, including The Standard’s September 2025 report. But the club’s announcements described preliminary expressions of interest and did not confirm that a formal offer of that size had been made. The Independent, citing a PA news agency understanding, reported that the owners had yet to receive a new offer. The figure should therefore be treated as media-reported, not as a confirmed bid amount, accepted price or independently verified world record.
What did Tottenham officially announce?
7 September: preliminary interest rejected
Tottenham said ENIC had received separate preliminary expressions of interest from PCP International Finance and from a consortium led by Dr. Roger Kennedy and Wing-Fai Ng through Firehawk Holdings Limited. The club said the expressions were “unequivocally rejected.” Its statement also said: “The Board of the Club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the Club.” Read the club’s 7 September statement.
26 September: an informal expression of interest
The club later announced an informal expression of interest associated with a consortium led by Brooklyn Earick. Tottenham said the group had until 5pm on 24 October 2025 to announce either a firm intention to make an offer or that it would not do so. 6 October: the approaches ended
Tottenham said Firehawk and Earick’s consortium did not intend to make offers. The club then stated: “Following the announcements made by the consortiums, the Club is no longer in an offer period under the City Code on Takeovers and Mergers.” Read the 6 October statement. Expression of interest versus formal offer
The distinction matters: an expression of interest signals possible intent to explore a transaction, while a firm offer is a more definite proposal. Tottenham’s own statements called the September approaches preliminary or informal expressions of interest and said they were rejected. They did not establish a completed offer, an agreed takeover price or a change of ownership.
