Why “top five” depends on what a ranking measures
Rankings are useful only when their scope and method match the decision you need to make. The Tech Times article did not disclose a comparative score, explain how it ordered its selections, or establish a geography for the list. It therefore supports saying these were that article’s five picks—not that they are objectively the five best companies for every project.

Other 2024 rankings measured different things:
- EVCOM’s UK Top 50: Its March 26, 2024 report covered UK producers of commissioned brand video and corporate film for private, public, and nonprofit organizations. It excluded advertising and entertainment, including broadcasting and streaming. EVCOM said it assessed more than 60 data points per production business across four weighted categories, with public-data checks and an advisory-panel review. The ranking used 2023 source data, including the most recent full-year accounts and awards from January through December 2023; the survey ran from late November 2023 to January 2024. Its first five were Casual, DRPG, The Edge, RD Content, and Brunswick Creative. These are UK positions under EVCOM’s scope, not a direct correction to the Tech Times list. EVCOM’s 2024 ranking and methodology
- The One Show’s 2024 Production Company rankings: The Film & Video category ranking was based on awards points, with eligibility and credit rules; points were divided when multiple production companies shared a qualifying credit. Search-result evidence listed Sal Gorda, Moxie Pictures, Stink Films, FACTORY01, and Iconoclast as the first five in that category. Because the live page was not available for verification, treat those names as provisional. In any case, award results measure competition outcomes, not whether a company fits your budget, brief, or client experience expectations. The One Show 2024 archive
A ranking based on business performance, one based on awards, and an editorial shortlist answer different questions. None alone tells you which production partner is right for your project.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose a production company for your project
Compare candidates against the same brief. That makes differences in creative fit, production scope, logistics, and cost easier to see than a general ranking does.
- Define the deliverable and audience. Specify the video’s purpose, intended viewers, format, length, distribution channels, and tone. A product explainer, recruitment film, outdoor-lifestyle shoot, and social video place different demands on a team.
- Review relevant work. Ask for completed examples close to your format, audience, industry, and desired style. A broad portfolio matters less than evidence that the company can solve a problem like yours.
- Set the production scope. Establish whether you need help with strategy and scripting, animation, filming, editing, motion graphics, or delivery—or a team to manage the full process. Confirm who will handle each stage.
- Check geography and logistics. Ask where the crew is based, whether it can work at your location, and how travel, location requirements, and crew availability affect the schedule and quote.
- Understand communication and revisions. Request the proposed workflow, review milestones, who gives feedback, and how many revision rounds are included. A process that fits your team can matter as much as the creative pitch.
- Compare written proposals. Give each candidate the same brief and compare total cost, deliverables, schedule, usage rights, and revision terms. Clarify what is excluded so two differently scoped quotes are not mistaken for equivalent offers.
- Verify current claims. Check current service pages and recent examples, confirm availability, and ask for relevant references. Do not assume details in an April 2024 article still describe a company today.
What the 2024 list can—and cannot—tell you
The list offers five names and broad descriptions that may help you begin a search. It does not establish a winner by budget, geography, video format, client satisfaction, or measurable production results. No comparative price, satisfaction, or performance data was verified for these five firms. The useful next step is to shortlist based on the project you actually have, then assess candidates using the same scope and written criteria.
