Some apps let you redeem rewards for cash, but that is not the same as guaranteed income. Surveys can screen you out, points may need to be redeemed before they have cash value, and some offers require a purchase or substantial time. The available 2026 comparison covers seven survey and poll apps—not a verified top-ten list across cash-back, gig-work, and game apps—so the services below are leads to check, not a ranked endorsement.

What apps actually pay real money?

“Real money” can mean several different things: a transfer to a bank account, cash back credited to PayPal, a gift card, or points that can be exchanged for a reward. These are not interchangeable. Before using an app, check what form you can redeem, the minimum required, how long payment takes, and whether the activity costs money.

One clear example is PayPal Rewards, whose rules apply to that program rather than to other apps. In the United States, PayPal says eligible activities through PayPal and Honey can earn points; 100 points can be redeemed at checkout for $1. Points are not money or personal property before redemption, may expire, and can remain pending for up to 90 days. After a user chooses cash back, it can take up to 24 hours for funds to reach PayPal. PayPal’s Rewards help page and Rewards agreement explain the terms.

PayPal’s agreement requires a valid account in good standing, US residency or residency in a US territory, and age 18 or the local age of majority for participation in the PayPal channel. Availability is not universal, and individual offers have their own terms. Do not assume those rules, redemption choices, or timing apply to any other service.

Which apps pay you real money?

TechRadar’s April 29, 2026 comparison assessed seven survey and poll apps, including earnings per minute, cash-out access, and survey disqualification. Its available coverage discusses the five services below. The app descriptions and payout choices are secondary-source reporting, not verified universal terms; check the current official rules in your country and account before spending time or money. Read the comparison.

App How it works Reported reward options and cautions
Survey Junkie Survey-focused activities, with screening that can disqualify a user. TechRadar reports PayPal, bank transfer, or gift-card redemption. Availability and terms may vary by account or region; the comparison does not establish a universal minimum or processing time.
Swagbucks A mix of surveys, shopping cash back, streaming, game offers, and web-search rewards. TechRadar reports SB points redeemable for cash, gift cards, or prepaid cards. Some game offers may require substantial time or spending; an offer that requires a purchase is not free money.
Toluna Polls and surveys, including through mobile apps. TechRadar reports PayPal and gift-card options and says points may expire. Country availability, thresholds, and current terms need checking.
Branded Surveys Surveys. TechRadar reports PayPal, US bank transfer, and gift cards, with a threshold and processing that vary by tier. Verify the current threshold and timing directly before joining.
Google Opinion Rewards Short opinion surveys, with platform-dependent rewards. TechRadar reports Google Play credit on Android and a PayPal option on iOS. Country and device restrictions matter; check the current app listing and terms for your location.

The comparison also discusses Prolific, which it describes as web-based rather than a dedicated app, and Pinecone Research, whose payout options and survey experience may change. They are not included as confirmed app recommendations here.

Can you really make money with survey apps?

You can earn rewards when you qualify for activities and meet an app’s redemption rules, but the available evidence does not establish a typical income across these services. Survey screening means an activity can take time without producing a reward, and advertised maximums are not a reliable estimate of what a particular person will earn. Treat surveys as occasional rewards, not a dependable wage or a substitute for income.

Before starting, compare the time required with the reward you can actually redeem. Look for the minimum cash-out, whether the reward is cash or a restricted credit, payment processing time, and the app’s rules for disqualified surveys. If an activity involves shopping or buying a game add-on, count that outlay against the reward rather than treating the headline amount as earnings.

How to check an app before you use it

  1. Confirm the payout form. Find out whether the app pays cash to an account, offers PayPal cash back, or issues points, gift cards, or platform credit.
  2. Check redemption conditions. Read the current minimum, expiry rules, processing time, and any account or identity requirements. A displayed balance may be pending or unavailable to withdraw.
  3. Check eligibility in your location and on your device. Country, age, operating system, and account requirements differ. PayPal Rewards, for example, has specific US eligibility rules; that does not establish eligibility for other apps.
  4. Review the cost of each offer. Note whether it requires a purchase, subscription, deposit, or in-game spending. Do not spend more than you can afford to lose for a promised reward.
  5. Estimate the time and qualification risk. Survey screening and offer conditions can make the effective reward lower than the advertised amount. Stop if the terms are unclear or the time is not worth it.

How to spot a money-making app scam

Be especially wary of apps or messages that show commissions for repetitive tasks—such as rating or liking content—and then demand a deposit to continue or withdraw supposed earnings. The FTC describes task scams that may make an initial small payout to build trust before asking for money. Its advice is direct: “Never pay anyone to get paid.” FTC task-scam guidance.

The FTC said 38.8% of sampled job-scam reports in the first half of 2024 were identified as task scams. That is a share of a hand-coded sample of job-scam reports, not the share of all scams, all apps, or all money-making offers. The FTC also advises against paying a fee to claim a prize and recommends protecting account credentials and verifying unexpected payment requests. FTC mobile-payment safety guidance.

  • Do not deposit money to unlock tasks, release a balance, or recover earnings.
  • Do not trust a visible in-app commission as proof that the balance is withdrawable.
  • Check the provider’s official terms and contact channels independently before sharing financial or login details.
  • Walk away from pressure to act quickly or pay a fee to claim a prize.
