Those are examples from a 2024 investigation—not a verified “top five,” and the reporting does not establish whether either domain is still operating.
What fake online stores linked to China were named?
A May 2024 investigation by Le Monde, Die Zeit and The Guardian, based on internal documents obtained and analyzed by SR Labs, described BogusBazaar as a criminal network of fake e-commerce sites operated at least in part from China. The reporting presented the following two domains through consumer accounts; it did not rank them or establish that they remain online.

These accounts are evidence cited within the investigation, not a live directory or an independent assessment of the domains today. The reporting does not support naming three more shops to complete a “top five.”
How large was the BogusBazaar operation?
Le Monde reported that SR Labs analyzed BogusBazaar internal records describing more than 75,000 fake e-commerce sites put online over four years and more than 800,000 orders placed worldwide over that period. The same records indicated at least 170,000 French internet users were affected over four years. These are historical investigation estimates reported in 2024, not current totals or counts of unique stores verified as active.

What the sites appeared to sell
The investigation described industrially produced copies of legitimate retail catalogs, mainly for clothing and shoes, with toys and furniture also represented. The specific consumer accounts named above involved a Sœur handbag and Reebok sneakers.
Does China’s 2024 fraud-site count refer to fake stores?
No. China’s Cyberspace Administration said its reporting center handled 518 impersonation and fraud websites or platforms in 2024. That broader total included 279 impersonating government bodies, 83 impersonating state-owned enterprises or public institutions, 41 impersonating private companies, and 115 impersonating journals. The notice described copied official pages, enticing false offers and domain redirection. It is not a count of BogusBazaar sites or fake retail stores.

How can you assess a suspicious online store?
The investigation illustrates why a polished catalog or familiar brand name is not enough to establish that a seller is genuine: BogusBazaar sites were described as copies of legitimate retail catalogs. Use evidence tied to the specific domain and transaction rather than relying on a broad claim that a store is “from China.”
- Check the exact domain, not just the brand name or appearance of the site. A familiar logo or copied product catalog does not prove affiliation.
- Look for reliable, independent reporting or an official notice naming that exact domain. Do not treat an unrelated warning or a similarly named business as proof.
- Be cautious about unusually enticing offers and unexpected redirects. China’s Cyberspace Administration identified these among tactics used by impersonation and fraud sites, though their presence alone does not establish that a particular shop is fraudulent.
- Keep order confirmations and communications. If an order is not delivered or a refund request is ignored, contact your payment provider promptly to ask what dispute or chargeback options apply.
Are the named domains still operating?
The 2024 reporting does not establish the current status of architectes-fr.com or Anthonybannach.com. A domain may become inactive, change hands or host different content, so the investigation’s account should not be read as confirmation of what either address displays now.

Not on that basis alone. In a 26 May 2025 notice, the European Commission described alleged consumer-law practices at SHEIN and said the investigation was ongoing at publication. Allegations about a real retailer’s practices are distinct from evidence that a site is a fake store impersonating another seller. The notice does not establish that SHEIN is a fake store.
