Tommy Watson’s Sunderland wage was estimated at £1,500 a week; Brighton wage trackers later put him at £15,000–£20,000 a week. That suggests an estimated difference of £13,500–£18,500 weekly, but neither club nor Watson has confirmed either salary, and the Brighton estimates disagree.
What was Tommy Watson estimated to earn at Sunderland?
A 2024–25 Sunderland salary roundup from Sunderland AFC News listed Watson at £1,500 per week, or £78,000 annualized, attributing the figure to Capology. It is a third-party estimate, not a salary disclosed by Sunderland or Watson. Sunderland AFC News’ salary roundup also listed his Sunderland contract as expiring in June 2026.
What do Brighton wage listings estimate?
Two listings put Watson’s estimated Brighton wage at different levels. The difference appears to reflect separate season snapshots, not a confirmed change in his contract.

How large is the implied difference?
Comparing the £1,500 Sunderland estimate with the £15,000–£20,000 Brighton range gives an arithmetic difference of £13,500–£18,500 a week. Annualized, the comparison is £78,000 at Sunderland against £780,000–£1,040,000 in the Brighton listings. The Brighton estimates are 10 to about 13.3 times the Sunderland estimate, or roughly 900%–1,233% higher.
Those calculations describe the gap between tracker estimates; they do not establish Watson’s actual raise. The available figures do not confirm his gross pay, bonuses, tax, take-home pay, or full compensation package.

What Brighton confirmed about Watson’s move
Brighton announced on 1 April 2025 that it had agreed to sign Watson from Sunderland, describing the transfer terms as undisclosed and his agreement as running until June 2029. The club said he officially joined on 1 June 2025, subject to Premier League and FA approval, and reported that he had made 24 Sunderland appearances and scored three goals in all competitions. Brighton’s signing announcement and club update on his arrival do not state his salary.
BBC Sport reported a £10 million transfer fee and a four-year contract through summer 2029. That reported fee was a transfer amount, not money paid to Watson; Brighton itself said the terms were undisclosed. BBC Sport’s report is the source for the £10 million figure.

Brighton technical director David Weir described Watson as “an exciting young talent who we have been tracking for a significant period of time.” Brighton’s announcement contains the quote.
