Only the first three rows come from a database that records results. The fourth is a publisher’s estimate. They should never be added together or treated as two versions of the same measurement.
Why the $12.5 million estimate is unverified
Neon Hollywood’s article presents $12.5 million as its estimate of Dwan’s wealth. Nothing in the publicly available material shows the underlying figures: how much he has won in private games, what he has lost, what he has spent, or whether he holds stakes in other players or businesses. Nobody outside Dwan’s circle can confirm those inputs.

Pokerology, which profiles Dwan’s career and earnings, says plainly that outside observers cannot verify a net-worth figure for him. 888poker’s guide to Dwan’s net worth makes a similar methodological point: public tournament results do not capture all the factors that go into a wealth estimate. Both are useful cautions. Neither confirms any specific dollar amount.
If you see a higher or lower figure elsewhere, the same limits apply. Ask what the figure counts, where it came from, and whether it can be checked against records. In most cases for private players, it cannot.
Why tournament earnings are not net worth
Recorded tournament earnings are gross prize money. Turning them into personal wealth requires information that public databases do not hold.

- Costs of playing. Buy-ins, travel and accommodation for live events are paid out of the winnings, so the net result is always lower than the gross prize total.
- Results outside tournaments. The database records tournament cashes. It does not record private cash-game sessions, where much of a high-stakes player’s results are often made.
- Staking and backing. If other people funded some buy-ins in exchange for a share of the prize money, that share belongs to them. Public records do not show whether such arrangements exist for Dwan.
- Taxes, debts and assets. None of these appear in a poker database. A player can have large recorded earnings and still have a much smaller net position, or the reverse.
- Time. A lifetime total accumulates over many years, while a net-worth figure is a snapshot on a particular date.
In short, the database tells you how much prize money has been recorded in live events. It cannot tell you how much Dwan kept.
What recent coverage does and does not tell us
Spade Poker published an interview with Dwan on 24 April 2026. It covers his views on poker and on private games, which is useful background on how he approaches the game. It does not contain a statement about his net worth, and no sourced quotation from Dwan about his finances appears in the public material we reviewed. Any article that attributes a money quote to him should be treated with suspicion unless it links to the original interview.

How to read net-worth claims about poker players
- Check what the number measures. Tournament earnings, estimated wealth and profit are three different things.
- Look for a named source and a date. An undated or unattributed figure carries little weight.
- Ask whether the estimate explains its inputs. A figure with no stated method cannot be checked.
- For database totals, record the access date, because live results are added over time and year-to-date numbers change.
Applying these checks to Dwan leaves one clear conclusion: his recorded poker earnings are documented, but his net worth is not.

Several things about Dwan’s finances are not established in any public source: the size and results of his private-game activity, whether he has backed other players or been backed himself, his tax position, his assets and any liabilities. Reports about debts or financial trouble circulate in poker communities, but we did not find a verified source for them, and we do not repeat them here.
If an accurate net-worth figure ever becomes public, it would most likely come from Dwan himself or from a legal or financial disclosure, and it would need to name the date and the method used.
