Knighthead’s August 2023 announcement reported approximately $9.5 billion in assets under management (AUM). That is a historical, company-reported measure of assets managed by the firm; it is not Wagner’s personal wealth, nor does it establish how much he owns of Knighthead or Birmingham City.
How did Tom Wagner take over Birmingham City?
SCL completed its takeover of Birmingham City in July 2023, according to BBC Sport. BBC Sport later reported that SCL acquired a 45.98% stake in 2023 and raised its holding to 96.64% in November 2025. These are club ownership figures reported for those dates, not figures for Wagner’s personal stake.

What is known about Wagner’s health?
In the same 11 February 2026 report, BBC Sport said Wagner was recovering from a stroke and would temporarily step back from daily responsibilities. A club statement quoted by the BBC said he received rapid medical intervention and described his recovery as good. This is a dated update, not confirmation of his health or work schedule today.
What is Tom Brady’s connection to Tom Wagner and Birmingham City?
Knighthead announced on 3 August 2023 that Brady had entered a partnership with the firm, become a minority owner of Birmingham City and taken the chair of a new advisory board. Knighthead described the proposed advisory remit as including support for health, nutrition, wellness and recovery work, as well as global marketing and commercial partnership opportunities.

An advisory-board chair is not automatically a board director. BBC Sport’s 2023 report quoted sports-finance expert Christina Philippou making that distinction and noting that Brady’s practical influence would depend on how the role was set up. Wagner said in Knighthead’s announcement: “Tom Brady joining the Birmingham City team is a statement of intent. We are setting the bar at world class.”
