There is no defensible, current national ranking of the 10 most expensive steakhouses in America in the available evidence. “Most expensive” could mean the price of a particular steak or the cost of a full dinner, and those measures cannot be mixed into one ordered list. Recent reporting identifies Niku Steakhouse in San Francisco and SW Steakhouse in Las Vegas as notable high-price examples, but their reported menu figures need confirmation with the restaurants.
Why there is no reliable top 10 yet
A ranked list needs one consistent measure and current, comparable prices for every restaurant. The latest sources here do not provide that: one reports selected menu prices, another highlights notable steakhouses without ranking them by cost, and an older list uses a full-meal method but dates to 2017.

That makes the literal question—“Where is the most expensive steakhouse in America?”—harder to answer than naming a restaurant with a striking menu price. A steak priced by the ounce, a tasting menu, and the expected cost of an entire dinner describe different spending decisions. Calling one the national “most expensive” without specifying the measure would be misleading.
Two recent high-price examples
Chowhound’s August 15, 2026 article reports the following figures. They are reported menu examples, not independently verified current prices or a national comparison. Check with each restaurant before relying on them to plan a meal.

These examples illustrate why the price unit matters: a listed portion price and a per-ounce price are not directly comparable, and neither alone tells you what a full dinner will cost. Chowhound also mentions American Wagyu and market-price beef at SW, but does not supply comparable fixed prices for those items.
Other prominent steakhouses are leads, not ranked entries
The MICHELIN Guide’s February 25, 2026 feature discusses Capa in Lake Buena Vista, Cote in New York, Cote Miami, Gwen in Los Angeles, Kali in Hollywood, Isidore in San Antonio, and Niku in San Francisco. It describes different dining formats and dishes; it does not rank those restaurants by price.
Its inspector describes Niku’s options as including beef tartare, bone marrow, a tomahawk intended for two, and Imperial Wagyu filet mignon served with aged kimchi, bordelaise sauce, and sea salt. For Cote, the guide recommends the Butcher’s Feast, with different beef cuts, egg soufflé, and banchan; diners see the meat raw before it is cooked on the table grill. These notes help convey how different the experiences can be, but they do not establish which restaurant costs more.

Marrow’s Fall 2026 Top 100 snapshot, dated October 4, includes Cote, Niku, SW Steakhouse, CUT by Wolfgang Puck, Bazaar Meat, and other destinations. That is an editorial ranking of steakhouses, not a ranking by menu price. Marrow cautions that restaurant details can change and advises confirming hours, reservations, and location before travel.

There are two sensible ways to answer the cost question. Choose one before ranking restaurants, and apply it consistently.
Compare a signature steak
For a list focused on the most expensive individual steak, record the listed price alongside the serving weight, beef type and origin, and whether the price is for a portion, per ounce, or market price. Include any minimum order. Without those details, a high headline figure may reflect a larger cut or a different pricing unit rather than a more expensive like-for-like serving.

Compare the cost of a full meal
For a typical-dinner comparison, define a consistent meal—for example, an individual appetizer, steak entrée, an allocated share of a side, and dessert. Show tax, tip, drinks, and any minimum party size separately rather than quietly folding them into the food total. This method is more useful for budgeting a night out, but requires comparable current menus and a clear rule for shared dishes.
Yahoo Finance’s 2017 “America’s Most Expensive Steakhouses” used an older version of the full-meal approach: it reviewed 240 steakhouses across 20 major OpenTable cities and averaged the costs of an appetizer, entrée, side, and dessert when available. That historical method is a useful example of how to define a comparison; its old prices and rankings should not be treated as current 2026 evidence.

To publish a national ranking rather than a shortlist, each restaurant’s operating status and official menu would need to be checked on the same date. The comparison should then disclose, for every entry:

- Whether the ranking measures a signature steak, a tasting, or a typical full meal.
- The portion weight, pricing unit, and any minimum order.
- The beef type, origin, and stated provenance.
- The restaurant location and dining format.
- Whether the amount is fixed, charged per ounce, or listed at market price.
Those details matter especially when comparing formats as varied as Korean barbecue, Spanish-inspired rooftop dining, and live-fire cooking. A restaurant’s reputation, a guide’s recommendation, or a high price on one item cannot substitute for a consistent cost method.
How to use the older and incomplete price leads
Food Network’s indexed feature names Prime One Twelve, RPM Steak, and CUT among older high-priced steak examples, but its page was not available in the source set used here. That mention is not enough to establish a current price or include those restaurants in a 2026 ranking. Likewise, the 2017 Yahoo list is too old to establish today’s leaders. Treat both as names to verify against current official menus, not as proof of a top ten.
