There is no authoritative, audited ranking of baseball players’ personal net worth as of 2023. The closest compilation published that year describes its figures as estimates for 2022 and includes a baseball executive, while a separate 2022 top-ten list offers estimates specifically for players. The figures below are publisher estimates, not verified disclosures of personal wealth.
What the available rankings can—and cannot—tell you
Wealthy Gorilla published a list titled “The 20 Richest Baseball Players in the World” on April 9, 2023, but framed its figures as being “as of 2022.” It also ranked Bud Selig, a baseball executive, first, so it is not a clean ranking of players alone. The article says it compiled figures from Celebrity Net Worth, Forbes, and The Richest; that does not make the resulting estimates audited or methodologically consistent. Wealthy Gorilla’s compilation is best treated as a dated estimate list, not a definitive 2023 top ten.
For a player-only top ten, Casino.org’s list published July 19, 2022 provides a more direct comparison. Its figures are still estimates: the article names source websites but does not explain a consistent method for calculating each player’s net worth. The list below preserves Casino.org’s reported order and amounts rather than presenting them as independently verified rankings.
Casino.org’s estimated top 10
| Rank in Casino.org’s list | Player | Published net-worth estimate |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alex Rodriguez | $350 million |
| 2 | Derek Jeter | $200 million |
| 3 | Ichiro Suzuki | $180 million |
| 4 | Albert Pujols | $170 million |
| 5 | Miguel Cabrera | $125 million |
| 6 (tie) | Zack Greinke | $120 million |
| 6 (tie) | Ryan Howard | $120 million |
| 8 | Randy Johnson | $115 million |
| 9 (tie) | Joey Votto | $110 million |
| 9 (tie) | Manny Ramirez | $110 million |
These are the estimates Casino.org published in July 2022, not official statements by the players or a verified 2023 ranking. The list does not establish that every figure was calculated on the same basis, so its order should be read as that publisher’s comparison.

Why net worth is not salary, earnings, or contract value
Net worth is an estimate of assets minus liabilities at a point in time. A salary or annual-earnings figure measures money received over a period; a contract value describes what an agreement is worth over its term. Neither, by itself, says how much wealth a player has accumulated after taxes, spending, investments, debts, and other financial activity.
The Daily Beast’s 2009 list illustrates the distinction: it expressly counted money paid during 2009 from salary, bonuses, and endorsements, and excluded deferred income. That is a one-year earnings comparison, not a ranking of accumulated net worth. The Daily Beast’s stated methodology should not be mixed with the Casino.org net-worth estimates.
Shohei Ohtani’s reported Dodgers agreement is another different measure. The Washington Post reported a ten-season, $700 million contract in December 2023. That is the value of a contract agreement, not an estimate of Ohtani’s personal net worth at signing; it cannot be used as a like-for-like entry in a net-worth ranking. The Washington Post’s report concerns the contract, not a personal-assets calculation.

- Check the date attached to the estimate. A page published in 2023 may present figures for 2022, as Wealthy Gorilla’s article does.
- Check who is eligible. A list that includes executives is not a players-only ranking.
- Check what is being measured. Net worth, annual earnings, and total contract value answer different questions.
- Check whether the method is explained. The cited lists provide estimates, but do not establish an audited or uniformly calculated personal-wealth figure for each player.
On the evidence available in these published lists, Alex Rodriguez leads Casino.org’s July 2022 estimate ranking at $350 million, followed by Derek Jeter at $200 million and Ichiro Suzuki at $180 million. That is a useful snapshot of what one publisher reported—not proof of a settled worldwide ranking for 2023.
