Available reports give some film-specific pay figures, but they do not establish a complete 15-person list or a consistent ranking. The clearest figures cover reported pay for the 1977 original and estimates for 2015’s The Force Awakens—two different films, eras, and types of compensation.
What the reported figures actually show
The figures below are reports about particular films, not audited totals for the actors’ work across the franchise. A weekly rate, a one-film salary estimate, and a share of profits measure different things, so they cannot be combined into a reliable “most to least” ranking.

Reported compensation for the 1977 original
ABC News and Good Morning America reported these weekly rates in a December 20, 2019 article drawing substantially on J.W. Rinzler’s book The Making of Star Wars:
| Actor | Reported compensation | What the figure describes |
|---|---|---|
| Mark Hamill | $1,000 per week | Reported pay for the 1977 film |
| Carrie Fisher | $850 per week | Reported pay for the 1977 film |
| Harrison Ford | $750 per week | Reported pay for the 1977 film |
| Alec Guinness | £15,000 per week plus 2% of the film’s net profits | Reported compensation terms; no realized profit total is established here |
| James Earl Jones | $7,500 | Reported fee for recording Darth Vader’s lines on the original film |
These are reported terms, not a verified accounting of each performer’s final earnings. Guinness’s profit participation is especially important: his weekly rate alone does not describe the full arrangement, and the cited reporting does not establish how much he ultimately received from it. ABC News / Good Morning America, December 20, 2019.

Reported estimates for The Force Awakens
A 2015 GameSpot report, attributing its figures to Variety, gave these estimates for the 2015 film. They are period-specific reported estimates, not confirmed final totals:
| Actor or actors | Reported salary estimate |
|---|---|
| Harrison Ford | $10 million–$20 million |
| Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher | Low-seven-figure range |
| John Boyega and Daisy Ridley | $100,000–$300,000 each |
| Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac | Mid-to-high-six-figure range |
The report distinguishes salary from backend or percentage arrangements and says reported participation did not begin until the film passed a stated box-office threshold. It does not establish realized participation amounts, so these salary estimates should not be read as total compensation. GameSpot, 2015.

Why the “seven most and eight least” ranking cannot be verified
The requested 15-person ranking requires a complete roster and a common measure of earnings. The accessible reporting does not provide either. It covers selected actors in two films and mixes weekly rates, salary estimates, and profit participation. It does not establish the ranking methodology, a complete list of 15 performers, or comparable franchise-wide earnings.
That means naming seven “highest” and eight “lowest” earners would require filling gaps with figures that do not answer the same question. Celebrity net-worth estimates are not a substitute: they concern a person’s broader assets and career, not verified pay from Star Wars.
How to interpret a Star Wars pay figure
- Identify the film. A figure for the 1977 original is not directly comparable with a reported salary for The Force Awakens.
- Check the unit and currency. Weekly pay, a flat salary, a percentage, and dollar or pound amounts are different measures.
- Separate upfront pay from participation. A reported salary estimate may exclude backend compensation, and a profit-share percentage does not reveal the amount actually paid without a realized figure.
- Do not treat one film as the whole franchise. The cited reports do not establish total earnings across all Star Wars projects.
Production context is not a salary ledger
George Lucas told StarWars.com in a 2020 interview about The Empire Strikes Back, “In order to be able to take control of the movie, I had to pay for it myself.” That explains a financing choice and creative-control context; it does not document actor compensation. Likewise, StarWars.com’s interview with Anthony Daniels discusses his experience as C-3PO and publicity, not his pay.
For readers interested in the production history behind reporting on the original film, ABC News points to J.W. Rinzler’s The Making of Star Wars. The cited article draws substantially on the book, but that attribution should not be taken as independent confirmation of every reported salary figure.
