The available description of Birmingham City’s project under the Sky Bet EFL Building Foundations Fund is a bespoke football outreach programme for young adults at risk of becoming NEET—not a confirmed community hub. The cited source does not establish a Birmingham grant amount, a building project, a hub location or facilities, or a delivery timetable.
What is confirmed about Birmingham City’s project?
The fund’s case-study list describes Birmingham City’s project as a “Bespoke football outreach programme for young adults at risk of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training).” Flutter Entertainment’s announcement does not describe a community hub or say that the project involves constructing or renovating a building.
That distinction matters: a football outreach programme is not evidence of a dedicated facility. The available description also does not specify where the programme takes place, when it began, how much Birmingham received, or what outcomes it achieved. It cannot confirm whether Birmingham later received a separate award or developed another project that matches the “community hub” wording.
What is the Sky Bet EFL Building Foundations Fund?
The English Football League (EFL) announced that Sky Bet committed £6 million over six years to the fund. In its 2024 announcement for the 2024/25 season, the EFL said £1 million would be available in grants to EFL club charities, with awards ranging from £5,000 to £100,000. Those figures describe that season’s funding window; they should not be treated as current application rules or proof that Birmingham received any particular amount. The EFL’s 2024 announcement outlined target areas including physical and mental health, crime prevention, education, employability, local sporting facilities, and the physical and social benefits of sport.

At the fund’s launch, its first-season structure was described as giving each club community organisation an initial £10,000, with remaining funds awarded competitively. The launch announcement said successful projects were intended to engage adults over 18. These were launch-era details, not confirmation of the terms of later funding rounds. The EFL’s launch announcement provides that historical context.
What do the fund’s reported results show?
In its 2024 announcement about the fund’s second season, the EFL reported that club charities had delivered more than 100 new weekly sessions and involved over 7,500 additional participants as a result of funding. These are fund-wide figures, not Birmingham City project results. The EFL’s second-season announcement does not attribute those totals to Birmingham.

Separately, the EFL’s community overview reports that, across its club charities in 2023/24, 801,661 session hours were delivered, 1.10 million participants engaged, and £1.24 billion in social value generated. These are EFL network figures for community activity, not an evaluation of the Building Foundations Fund or Birmingham’s outreach programme. The EFL community overview gives the network-wide context.

Yes, the fund has been associated with facility work at another club, but that does not establish a Birmingham hub. In July 2025, the EFL reported that Shrewsbury Town Foundation received £67,000 toward its £140,000 Meadowside redevelopment project. That is a Shrewsbury facility example, not a Birmingham City award or project description. The EFL’s Shrewsbury announcement describes that separate project.

The example shows why it is important to distinguish the fund’s broad range of possible community work from the specific evidence about each recipient. For Birmingham, the cited description supports football outreach for young adults at risk of becoming NEET; it does not verify a hub or building project.
