Robert Downey Jr.’s FootPrint Coalition named Seattle startup Cloud Paper among its investments when it announced a new sustainability-focused venture-fund effort on January 27, 2021. Cloud Paper made bamboo toilet paper and paper towels. FootPrint Coalition later said it participated in another funding round; neither announcement disclosed how much it invested.
What FootPrint Coalition announced
On January 27, 2021, FootPrint Coalition announced FootPrint Coalition Ventures, a group of rolling funds focused on sustainable technology. Its launch announcement described an early-stage fund investing from pre-seed through Series A and a later-stage fund for Series B and beyond. It also listed six investment areas:
- Sustainability-focused consumer products and services
- Food and agriculture technology
- Materials and industrial technology
- Energy and transportation
- Education and media
- Advanced environmental solutions
The announcement said Cloud Paper was already among FootPrint Coalition’s investments. It also described a rolling-fund offering through AngelList and access for qualified and accredited investors. Those are terms reported in the 2021 launch announcement, not confirmation of current fund terms. FootPrint Coalition’s launch announcement

What is known about the investment
FootPrint Coalition’s 2021 announcement confirms that it had invested in Cloud Paper, but does not state its contribution. GeekWire reported that Cloud Paper raised a $3 million seed round in 2020 led by Greycroft and named celebrity investors. That $3 million is the reported round total, not an amount attributed to Downey or FootPrint Coalition.
In a February 3, 2022 post, FootPrint Coalition said it participated in a later Cloud Paper funding round. The post does not disclose the coalition’s contribution. FootPrint Coalition’s February 2022 post
