Electronic Arts’ sale to a consortium of private investors closed on August 4, 2026. EA announced an approximately $55 billion enterprise value for the deal—not “up to $50 billion”—and said stockholders received $210 in cash per share. EA shares have ceased trading and are being delisted from Nasdaq.
Who bought Electronic Arts?
The buyers were a consortium comprising Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), private investment funds affiliated with Silver Lake, and private investment funds affiliated with Affinity Partners. EA announced the agreement on September 29, 2025, and said the consortium would acquire 100% of the company. PIF’s existing 9.9% stake was to be rolled over as part of the transaction, rather than cashed out like other shares.
EA announced completion on August 4, 2026, after its stockholders approved the deal on December 22, 2025. The company’s closing announcement is the source for the completed status; this is no longer a pending sale.
How much was EA sold for?
EA’s September 2025 agreement announcement described the transaction as approximately $55 billion in enterprise value. That is the company’s stated transaction value; it is not the same figure as the $210 cash paid for each share. The headline’s “up to $50 billion” framing does not reflect EA’s disclosed transaction value.

These figures describe different parts of the announced transaction and should not be added together as if each were a separate purchase price. The financing amounts are the terms EA announced in 2025, not a report of the company’s post-closing debt balance.
What happened to EA stock?
EA said stockholders received $210 in cash per share for shares they owned as of the August 4, 2026 closing. The company also announced that its common stock had ceased trading and would be delisted from Nasdaq. As a result, EA is no longer a publicly traded company whose shares investors can buy or sell on that exchange.

For someone who held EA shares, the relevant event was the cash payment at closing—not an ongoing public-market share position in EA. The company’s closing announcement provides the transaction’s stated payment and trading status.
Why did EA agree to become privately owned?
EA and the buyer consortium presented the transaction as a way to support growth, innovation, global reach, and a longer investment horizon. In its proxy materials, EA said private ownership could give it more latitude to pursue strategies without responding to quarterly public-market expectations. These are the parties’ stated reasons for the deal, not evidence that the expected benefits have already occurred.

In the closing announcement, EA Chairman and CEO Andrew Wilson said: “Together, we’ll invest boldly, accelerate innovation, and build the next generation of games and experiences for the hundreds of millions of players and fans who inspire us every day.” This describes management’s ambitions under the new ownership; it does not establish what will change in particular games or operations.
Will EA’s games or business change under the new owners?
That remains uncertain. The completion announcement confirms the change in ownership, but the information cited here does not establish specific post-closing changes to game development, release plans, prices, staffing, or company strategy.

The Associated Press reported differing expectations around the deal. Some analysts saw private ownership as potentially giving EA more freedom, while others pointed to the announced debt financing and the possibility of cost-cutting measures. AP also reported concerns about the new owners’ influence. Those are possibilities and concerns—not confirmed post-closing outcomes. EA’s filings caution that forward-looking statements are not guarantees.

In its August 2026 closing announcement, EA said its fiscal year 2026 GAAP net revenue was approximately $7.5 billion. That is a company-reported revenue figure, not a valuation of the acquisition, a measure of investor returns, or proof of how the new ownership will affect future financial results.
