Reading’s 2024/25 accounts recorded sell-on income connected to former player Michael Olise after his move from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich. The accounts coverage does not disclose how much Reading received or the clause’s calculation. The widely reported Bayern fee is a separate figure and cannot be treated as Reading’s take.
What is known about Reading’s share?
BBC Sport’s report on Reading’s 2024/25 accounts, published on 1 April 2026, says player-sale income included a sell-on clause for Olise. It does not itemize an Olise-specific amount. The available reporting therefore establishes that Reading recorded a receipt tied to the transfer, but not its value.
The clause formula is also undisclosed. Before Olise’s Bayern move, BBC reported that the release-clause arrangements involved percentages due to Crystal Palace, Olise and Reading, but it did not publish a calculation that can be used to determine Reading’s eventual payment. BBC’s coverage of Reading’s accounts and its pre-transfer report on the clause do not establish a Reading-specific sum.
Three figures that describe different things
| Measure | What was reported | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Reading to Crystal Palace, 2021 | BBC reported a fee of £8 million. BBC Sport | The reported fee for Olise’s earlier move; it is not a disclosure of Reading’s later sell-on receipt. |
| Palace’s release clause, June 2024 | BBC described the clause as being in the region of £60 million, with percentages due to Palace, Olise and Reading. This was pre-transfer reporting. BBC Sport | An estimate of the clause before the transfer, not the eventual payment to Reading or a published distribution formula. |
| Bayern transfer, 2024 | BBC later reported a fee of about €60 million (£50 million). BBC Sport | The approximate reported headline fee for the transfer, not Reading’s net proceeds. |
| Reading sell-on receipt | BBC’s 1 April 2026 account of the club’s 2024/25 accounts confirms sell-on income connected to Olise, but gives no separate amount. BBC Sport | The existence of income is established; its value and calculation are not stated. |
How the transfer unfolded
Reading to Crystal Palace
Olise came through Reading and made his professional debut there in March 2019, according to Bayern’s player profile. Crystal Palace signed him from Reading in 2021; the Premier League also dates the signing to that year. The Premier League’s retrospective confirms the move, while BBC later reported the fee as £8 million.

Palace to Bayern Munich
Bayern announced Olise’s signing on 7 July 2024 and said his contract ran through 30 June 2029. Bayern’s announcement did not state the transfer fee; nor did Palace’s announcement. Palace’s announcement likewise did not publish financial terms. The approximately €60 million (£50 million) figure comes from BBC reporting, not those official statements.

The reported Bayern fee, the percentages owed under the release-clause arrangement and Reading’s booked sell-on income are distinct measures. A headline fee does not show how the transfer proceeds were divided, and the public account of Reading’s filings does not state whether or how the sell-on was calculated against that figure.

- Climacool technology wicks and disperses sweat for a cool, dry, distraction-free experience
- Slim fit creates a streamlined silhouette for a modern soccer-inspired look
- Vibrant trim details add contemporary color and energy to the heritage-inspired design
- Subtracting the reported £8 million 2021 fee from the later reported Bayern fee would not calculate Reading’s receipt.
- Applying an assumed percentage to the reported Bayern fee would rely on a clause rate that has not been disclosed.
- Calling the receipt a specific profit would go beyond the published information about the amount and its accounting treatment.
As a result, the defensible answer to “How much did Reading get?” is that Reading’s accounts included Olise-related sell-on income, but the reviewed public reporting does not give the amount. The precise contractual arithmetic remains private in the sources cited here.
