Rocket Companies announced on March 10, 2025, that it would acquire Redfin in an all-stock transaction valued at $1.75 billion in equity. The deal closed on July 1, 2025, so Rocket has already completed the acquisition—not merely proposed it.
What happened to Redfin?
Rocket Companies agreed to acquire Redfin on March 10, 2025, and completed the acquisition on July 1, 2025. Rocket’s 2026 annual report records that effective date. The transaction was announced as an all-stock deal, rather than a cash buyout. The merger agreement filed with the SEC set the terms; the companies’ announcement of the agreement and closing announcement document the announcement and completion.
How much did Rocket pay for Redfin?
Rocket and Redfin announced an equity value of $1.75 billion, or $12.50 per Redfin share. The SEC-filed agreement separately states an enterprise value of $2.4 billion. These are different measures: equity value refers to the value attributed to shareholders’ equity, while enterprise value reflects the value of the business on a broader basis, including debt and cash considerations. The $1.75 billion figure is not a cash payment to Redfin shareholders.
What Redfin shareholders received
Under the merger agreement, each Redfin share was exchanged for 0.7926 shares of Rocket Class A common stock. Holders entitled to a fractional Rocket share received cash in lieu of that fraction. The fixed exchange ratio means the consideration was Rocket stock, not a guaranteed cash payment of $12.50 per share; the value of the shares received can change with Rocket’s stock price.

Why did Rocket acquire Redfin?
The companies presented the strategic rationale as connecting Redfin’s home-search and brokerage services with Rocket’s mortgage business. Their stated aim was to bring home discovery, real-estate services and financing closer together for customers. Expected synergies and customer benefits were part of the companies’ rationale, not proof that those benefits have been realized or independently measured. Rocket’s transaction announcement describes the companies’ stated case.
What the deal meant for Rocket shareholders
Rocket funded the acquisition with shares rather than an all-cash purchase price. The announced $1.75 billion equity value and the agreement’s $2.4 billion enterprise value describe different aspects of the transaction, not two amounts paid directly to Redfin shareholders. The cited transaction terms do not, by themselves, establish whether the acquisition has improved Rocket’s results or make an investment recommendation.

Was the acquisition subject to conditions?
When announced, the merger agreement remained subject to customary closing conditions, including Redfin shareholder approval, applicable regulatory waiting periods and effective registration statements. Those conditions described the path to completion at the time; the acquisition subsequently closed on July 1, 2025. Rocket’s closing announcement confirmed completion.

At closing, Rocket announced a conditional offer for qualifying clients financing through Rocket Mortgage and buying a home listed by a Redfin agent or purchasing with a Redfin agent. The announcement described either a one-percentage-point reduction in the first-year interest rate or a lender credit of up to $6,000. This was a historical offer announced in 2025; the closing announcement does not establish that it is currently available. Check Rocket Mortgage’s current offer terms directly before relying on it. Rocket’s July 1, 2025 closing announcement gives the original conditions.
