REI’s spring 2026 collection announcement and its outlet sale were separate stories. The collection was announced on March 5; a March 6 Travel + Leisure roundup reported selected outlet items starting at $13. That $13 figure is a historical report, not a verified offer for October 8, 2026. Check REI’s current product pages for live prices and stock before treating any item as a deal.
What REI introduced for spring 2026
REI’s March 5 announcement described a collection spanning camping, hiking, running, and cycling, designed by its in-house teams and tested by members and employees. The launch covered new products; it does not establish that those products were discounted. REI’s spring 2026 announcement is the source for the product details and launch prices below.
Camping
The Westward range included the Westward 6 Tent at $549, the Westward 4 Tent at $449, a Shelter at $329, and a Camp Tarp Set at $249, along with folding chairs and self-inflating beds. REI described the tent as having a 77-inch peak height, doors with awnings, and interior organization pockets. These are prices and specifications in the March announcement, not current October offers.
Sun-protective and insulated clothing
The Microtrek Insulated Hoodie was listed at $179 for men and women, with 60g PrimaLoft synthetic insulation and a recycled-polyester shell. REI described its Sahara Shade Hoodie as providing UPF 50+ protection and called it the co-op’s top-selling apparel item for several years—a ranking attributed to REI, not an independent sales measurement. The newly announced Flash Shade Hoodie was listed at $69.95 and described as using UPF 50+ ShadeFactor50 fabric in a lighter 110 g/m² grid fabric. Flash pants and shorts were listed at $99.95 and $69.95, respectively, with UPF 50+ protection.

Hydration and cycling
The Trailmade Hydration Sling was listed at $69.95 and the Trailmade 10 Hydration Pack at $74.95; each was paired with a named HydraPak bottle or reservoir. The Co-op Cycles ADV 2.1 gravel bike was listed at $1,499 with a 1 x 10 microSHIFT Sword drivetrain update for 2026. REI said new bikes purchased at REI include one year of free adjustments. The announcement does not establish whether these products or prices remain available.
What the $13 sale claim covered
A Travel + Leisure roundup published March 6, 2026 reported a spring REI Outlet sale across apparel, shoes, travel accessories, luggage, and camping or hiking gear, with selected items starting at $13. Its summary’s lowest-priced example was a Cotopaxi Cada Dia Five-panel Hat at $16, so the roundup’s stated $13 starting point was not illustrated there by a named $13 item.

The same roundup listed Patagonia Baggies Shorts at $45, reduced from $69; Patagonia Hampi Rock Pants at $64, from $99; Merrell Women’s Moab Speed 2 Mid Gore-tex Hiking Boots at $135, from $180; and an Eagle Creek Pack-it Hanging Toiletry Kit at $24, from $40. Those figures describe the dated roundup. Prices, colors, sizes, and stock can change, and the article does not verify that any of these offers remain active.
How to check whether a deal is real now
- Open REI’s current product page for the exact item, rather than relying on a dated sale roundup or launch announcement.
- Confirm the displayed price and whether the specific size, color, or model you want is in stock.
- Review the current product-page terms before buying; a past markdown does not establish today’s price or availability.
An REI Outlet search result described outlet discounts and new arrivals, but it did not provide verifiable live inventory or prices for October 8, 2026. It therefore cannot confirm that the March sale or its starting price is still available.

Choose by intended use, not by the word “new”
For sun apparel, compare UPF rating alongside fabric weight, coverage, fit, and ventilation. The Flash Shade Hoodie’s announced fabric weight offers one comparison point, while the Sahara Shade Hoodie is described by REI as UPF 50+; the announcement does not provide equivalent fabric-weight details for both. For tents and shelters, match the capacity and setup to your trip, and compare dimensions and carrying needs. For hydration packs, consider how much water and gear you need to carry. For a gravel bike, confirm the model and drivetrain suit your riding and budget. A launch price alone is not evidence that a product is the best-value choice.
