Who owns Sheffield United now?
COH Sports completed its acquisition of Sheffield United during the 2024/25 season, according to the club’s annual report for the year ended 30 June 2025, signed by co-chairmen Eltoukhy and Rosen on 18 December 2025. BBC Sport reported the completion on 23 December 2024. At the time, the deal was described as giving COH Sports 100% control of the men’s and women’s teams, Bramall Lane hotel and all real estate.
The club announced 1919 Partners LLC as its parent company in a board update on 22 June 2026. That corporate announcement is distinct from the later dispute about the acquisition vehicle; by itself, it does not establish that the club was sold again or that its beneficial owners changed.
What is the Sheffield United £35m takeover dispute?
In July 2026, The Guardian reported that representatives of former owner Prince Abdullah alleged that £35 million of purchase consideration remained unpaid by COH Sports. The amount is an allegation made by one side, not an independently established debt or a judicial finding.

The Guardian also reported an allegation that shares had moved from COH Sports Bidco Limited to 1919 Partners LLC. The reported share transfer and the club’s announcement naming 1919 Partners as parent are relevant corporate developments, but they do not determine why the transfer occurred or settle the payment dispute.
Which company was wound up?
A Sky Sports report on 17 August 2026 said a winding-up hearing concerning COH Sports Bidco Limited was scheduled for 19 August. A later independent analysis by The esk / Paul Quinn, published 28 September 2026, reported that a compulsory winding-up order was made against COH Sports Bidco Limited on 19 August.

That order concerns the acquisition vehicle, COH Sports Bidco Limited. It should not be described as an order winding up Sheffield United Football Club itself. The reports do not establish that the football club stopped trading or that the alleged £35 million had been adjudicated as owed.
What have the EFL and other regulators decided?
The Guardian reported in July that the EFL had requested observations from relevant parties. The league said: “The EFL notes recent developments involving Sheffield United and has requested observations from the relevant parties in the context of EFL regulations,” adding, “As this process is ongoing, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time.”

The 28 September analysis also describes EFL and IFR consideration of the matter. The available reporting does not establish a final EFL sanction or a final regulator ruling. The scheduled hearing described before 19 August and the winding-up order reported afterward are separate from any sporting or regulatory decision.

No confirmed points deduction is established in the available reporting. Sky Sports’ 17 August account discussed possible consequences conditionally, before the scheduled hearing, and reported that the current owners considered the club financially healthy. Those statements do not establish that a sanction was imposed. The later report of a winding-up order against Bidco does not, on its own, prove that the EFL has penalised the club.

What did the owners say they wanted to build?
In the club’s annual report, Rosen and Eltoukhy described their aim as: “To become a stable, data-driven Premier League club recognised for intelligent recruitment, supporter engagement, and authentic connection between players, staff, fans and community, built on financial discipline and cultural integrity.” The report presents this as the owners’ stated strategy, not evidence that each objective has been achieved.
The same report says the club’s retail operations remained profitable, supported by strong demand for official merchandise. That is a statement about the club’s retail activity; it does not verify stock at a particular retailer or establish anything about the ownership dispute.
