The federal lawsuit filed by Janel Grant against Vince McMahon and WWE was dismissed in July 2026 after the parties agreed to pursue their dispute in confidential arbitration, according to reporting on the dismissal. That procedural change is significant, but it is not a court ruling that McMahon is liable—or that he prevailed. The underlying claims and defenses may be pursued in arbitration.
What happened in the Janel Grant lawsuit?
Grant filed a federal complaint on January 25, 2024, naming McMahon, WWE and John Laurinaitis. The complaint set out Grant’s allegations; they should not be treated as findings established by a court. Source: complaint

On June 11, 2026, Grant, McMahon and WWE jointly asked to adjourn a hearing scheduled for June 16. Their motion said they were discussing a potential agreement to arbitrate the dispute confidentially. It stated: “The parties are in active discussions regarding a potential agreement to arbitrate the dispute in confidential arbitration that would moot those motions.” Source: joint motion Court filing
July 2026 reporting said the parties executed an arbitration agreement and the federal action was dismissed with prejudice while preserving their ability to pursue claims and defenses in arbitration. Source: July 2026 report

Did dismissal mean Vince McMahon won?
No. The dismissal ended the federal court action; it did not decide whether Grant’s allegations were true or false, and it was not a ruling on the merits. Nor does it establish that Grant withdrew her allegations. The report says the parties’ rights to pursue claims and defenses in arbitration were preserved. Source: July 2026 report
“Bad news for Vince McMahon” is a headline characterization, not a court finding. The procedural development alone does not show which side is more likely to prevail in arbitration.

What changes when a dispute moves from court to arbitration?
| Federal court case | Confidential arbitration |
|---|---|
| The case proceeded as a public federal action, with court filings and scheduled hearings forming part of the court process. | The parties’ dispute proceeds through arbitration under their agreement; the cited July report describes that process as confidential. |
| The federal action was dismissed with prejudice, ending that court proceeding. | The report says claims and defenses were preserved for arbitration; the dismissal itself did not resolve their merits. |
| Court proceedings can provide public records of filings and rulings. | Because the arbitration is confidential, public reporting about its proceedings or eventual outcome may be limited. |
The practical change is therefore about forum and visibility, not a public verdict. The cited reporting does not establish the precise reasons the parties reached their arbitration agreement.

July 2026 reporting says Laurinaitis was dropped from the suit in May 2025 after a confidential settlement and an agreement to cooperate with Grant’s attorneys. That is a separate development from the later arbitration agreement involving Grant, McMahon and WWE. Source: July 2026 report
