What the $12 million total means
Adding the two reported figures gives $12 million for the first two films, taken at face value. It is an arithmetic total of reported salaries—not a verified all-in amount for Saldaña’s Avatar work. The coverage cited does not settle whether bonuses, residuals, backend participation, or other compensation added to those figures.

Salary is not box-office gross
The films’ ticket sales do not establish what Saldaña was paid. Guinness World Records reported that Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Avatar: Fire and Ash had earned a combined worldwide box-office gross of $6,625,300,634 as of January 26, 2026. That is revenue from movie tickets, not the actor’s compensation. Guinness World Records.
Likewise, TIME reported in an April 2026 profile that Saldaña’s films had grossed more than $15.47 billion worldwide. That figure covers her filmography and describes box-office gross, not her personal earnings. TIME.
