LG is a South Korean-founded global company, not an all-American-made brand. It does manufacture some laundry appliances at its factory in Clarksville, Tennessee, but the origin of an LG product depends on its category and exact model. For a specific purchase, check the country-of-origin label on the unit or its packaging rather than relying on the brand name or U.S. storefront.
Is LG an American company?
LG Electronics is a South Korean company with a global manufacturing and sales network. LG Electronics USA, Inc., its U.S. subsidiary, is based in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. A U.S. subsidiary can sell products, handle support, and manage warranties without making every product in the United States. LG’s U.S. website likewise shows what is sold to U.S. shoppers, not where each item was manufactured.

It is useful to distinguish LG Electronics, which makes consumer electronics and appliances, from affiliated companies. LG Display makes display panels and modules; its 2025 filing describes manufacturing operations in South Korea, China, and Vietnam, not the United States. Panel origin does not by itself establish where a finished television is assembled. LG Display’s 2025 filing describes that production footprint.
What does LG make in the United States?
The Clarksville, Tennessee, laundry factory
LG Electronics announced a home-appliance factory near Clarksville, Tennessee, in February 2017. The original plan called for a $250 million investment and at least 600 full-time jobs. The facility was completed at the end of 2018. LG identifies its production lines as making front-load washers, top-load washers, and dryers, with production spanning parts, assembly, and packaging. LG’s 2017 announcement and description of the operating plant provide those details.

In a January 2023 release, LG stated that the plant had annual capacity of about 1.2 million washers and 600,000 dryers and employed more than 900 people. Those are company-reported figures from that date, not a guarantee of current output or staffing. In August 2020, LG separately announced the Tennessee factory had produced its one-millionth washing machine. LG’s milestone announcement documents that production history.
The World Economic Forum selected the plant for Lighthouse Factory recognition, which LG announced in January 2023. LG describes use of automation, artificial intelligence, big data, Internet of Things systems, automated guided vehicles, and integrated production lines. That recognition concerns manufacturing practices; it is not a certification of product reliability or domestic content.
Which LG product categories are confirmed?
| Category | What the available evidence supports |
|---|---|
| Washers | LG identifies front-load and top-load washers as products of its Clarksville factory. This does not establish that every U.S.-market model or production run comes from Tennessee. |
| Dryers | LG identifies the Tennessee plant as producing dryers. Verify the exact unit rather than generalizing to the entire line. |
| WashTower and related laundry products | LG has described Tennessee production associated with washers, dryers, and WashTower products. Check the particular model’s origin label. LG’s corporate release discusses this production. |
| Televisions | The cited sources do not establish a current U.S. finished-TV factory or a single country of origin for all LG TVs. Check the exact model and distinguish panel manufacture from final assembly. |
| Refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, and other kitchen appliances | The Tennessee evidence does not establish U.S. manufacture for these categories generally. Origin must be checked model by model. |
| Monitors, laptops, air conditioners, and other electronics | The cited sources do not establish U.S. manufacture across these categories. Do not infer origin from LG’s U.S. sales presence. |
LG sells a broad range of products through its U.S. site, but availability does not prove domestic manufacture. LG’s U.S. storefront is a sales catalogue, not a comprehensive country-of-origin list. Even an individual product page may not provide a general origin statement for a model family; for example, LG’s refrigerator product page lists product information and support materials without establishing a brand-wide origin rule.
Why LG products can come from different countries
A finished product may pass through several locations: components may be made by suppliers in one country, a display panel or motor in another, and final assembly in a third. Companies may also produce different versions for regional markets or shift production between facilities over time. That is why a country associated with one product, component, or production run cannot safely be applied to the whole LG brand.

LG Display’s reported operations in South Korea, China, and Vietnam show an international panel network, but they do not establish the final assembly country of every LG television. The same caution applies to refrigerators, monitors, and other products: a country claim is meaningful only when tied to the precise product and market.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.“Made in the USA” is not the same as “assembled in the USA”
A product assembled in the United States can contain imported motors, electronics, steel, compressors, displays, or other parts. Domestic assembly may support U.S. jobs and involve substantial manufacturing work without making every component U.S.-origin. “Designed in,” “engineered in,” “sold in,” and “assembled in” the United States describe different things and should not be treated as interchangeable with “made in the USA.”
The available sources do not establish a domestic-content percentage for each LG model. So while LG’s Tennessee factory is evidence of U.S. production, it is not evidence that a particular product is entirely made from U.S. parts.
How to check an LG product’s country of origin
- Get the full model number. Use the exact model identifier from the product listing, carton, or rating plate. LG’s support portal provides product support and model-identification help.
- Inspect the physical label and original carton. Look on the rear or side panel, inside a door frame, on the rating plate, or on the packaging and shipping label for wording such as “Made in,” “Assembled in,” “Country of origin,” or “Product of.”
- Ask the seller or LG about that exact unit. Ask: “Where was this exact model manufactured or assembled for the U.S. market?” If the answer says only that it ships from a U.S. warehouse or is sold by LG USA, ask again about manufacturing location.
- Keep the label information if origin matters to your decision. Similar product names can cover different model numbers, markets, or production runs; a claim about one unit should not automatically be applied to another.
- Do not rely on a serial-number decoding chart from a forum. Unless LG confirms the method for your product and market, such interpretations may be incomplete or outdated.
What if you are buying for a particular reason?
If you want to support U.S. manufacturing jobs
The Clarksville factory is concrete evidence of LG appliance manufacturing employment in the United States, particularly in laundry. That does not establish domestic manufacture across LG’s broader portfolio. Start with specific laundry models, then verify the label on the unit you would buy.
If you want to avoid products made in China
Do not treat final assembly location as proof that every component comes from elsewhere. Parts such as circuit boards, panels, motors, and compressors may have different origins. A China-free claim requires supply-chain information for the exact product that the available sources do not establish.
If you are comparing reliability
Country of origin by itself does not establish how reliable a particular appliance or television will be. Compare product-specific reliability information where available, warranty terms and exclusions, parts availability, authorized repair coverage, recall history, installation needs, and the retailer’s return policy. A factory’s advanced manufacturing recognition is not a substitute for product-level reliability evidence.
If you are buying outside the United States or considering an older unit
Manufacturing location may differ by market, model revision, and production date. A product sold in Canada, Europe, Mexico, or Asia may not share the origin of a U.S.-market counterpart. Discontinued and refurbished units may reflect an earlier production run, so inspect the unit’s own label.
