Microsoft Rewards’ streak-protection features were announced on May 15, 2024, and Microsoft still documents Streak Protection as a current Rewards feature. It can preserve a daily streak when you miss an eligible task—but only if protection is enabled beforehand and you have protection days left. The documented allowance is 14 days per calendar year; it does not complete missed activities or award their points. Availability and dashboard layout can vary by account and region.
Streak Protection and Streak Restore are different
Microsoft introduced two ways to address missed daily activity. Streak Protection is a preventive setting; Streak Restore is a possible recovery option after a streak has already broken. Microsoft’s current support page explains Protection, while Restore limits reported at launch should not be treated as guaranteed current rules.
| Feature | When it applies | What it does | Limit or current status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Streak Protection | Before a qualifying daily task is missed; turn it on in advance | Uses a protection day to keep the streak at its existing count | Microsoft documents 14 protection days per calendar year. Days cannot currently be earned or bought. Microsoft’s Streak Protection guidance |
| Streak Restore | After an accidental break, if the account presents a recovery option | May allow an eligible user to restore a broken streak | May 15, 2024 launch-era reporting described restoration once every 60 days, or monthly for streaks longer than 100 days. Those intervals are historical reporting, not confirmed current policy. Thurrott’s May 15, 2024 report |
For a planned vacation or other interruption, Protection is the relevant tool: enable it before you miss a task. If the streak has already reset, look for a Restore option in your own Rewards account rather than assuming it is available.
What the 14 protection days cover
Microsoft says users start with 14 protection days, which renew at the beginning of each calendar year. The days are a finite allowance, not 14 consecutive vacation days or 14 separate guarantees that every Rewards activity will be credited. When an eligible daily task is missed while Protection is active, one day is used and the streak stays at its current count. Unused days reset at the start of the new year; Microsoft does not say they roll over. There is currently no way to earn or purchase extra days, and after the allowance is exhausted, protection is unavailable until the next annual reset. Microsoft’s current rules

On a computer
- Go to rewards.bing.com and sign in to the correct Microsoft account.
- Find Streak protection near the main activity area and switch on the toggle.
- Open the Streak Protection information area to check how many days remain.
On a phone
- Open the Rewards dashboard while signed in to the account with the streak.
- Scroll near Daily set to find the Streak Protection toggle.
- Enable it, then check the information bar or Streak Protection area for the remaining allowance.
Before a planned absence, verify both that the toggle is on and that days remain. Seeing the control alone does not establish that your allowance has not been depleted.
Who can use it
Microsoft documents Streak Protection for Rewards, but that does not establish that the control appears for every account in every market. You need to be signed in to the account you use for Microsoft Rewards, and the Rewards experience depends on supported regions and account configuration. Offers and ways to earn vary by country or region; work or school accounts should not be assumed to have the same consumer Rewards features. Check your own dashboard and Microsoft’s supported-region information for your location.

If your streak resets or activity does not register
Microsoft identifies missed daily completion, using a different account, and device time-zone settings as possible reasons activity may not count. A VPN, proxy, or apparent change of market can also interfere with Rewards activity or conflict with program rules. A dashboard update may lag, so check the activity record before concluding that a task failed. Microsoft’s general Rewards guidance
- Reopen the Rewards dashboard and confirm the signed-in account is the one with the streak.
- Check whether the Daily Set shows its completion checkmark and whether the activity has had time to synchronize. Refresh the dashboard.
- Review the Streak Protection toggle and remaining allowance. If protection was off or no days remained, it may not have covered the missed task.
- Use your device’s normal date, time, and time-zone settings. Avoid VPNs, proxies, and location spoofing while earning Rewards.
- If the streak remains broken, see whether your account offers Streak Restore. If it does not, contact Microsoft Rewards Support. Launch-era reporting directed users to the support form under Earning points and then Broken Streak; support categories may have changed.
Microsoft says streak recognition is based on the device’s time zone, so completing tasks at the last possible moment can be risky when traveling or near a daily cutoff. The dashboard’s activities and deadlines may differ by region. Microsoft’s regional information

When it makes sense to enable Protection
Protection is useful if you have a long streak and expect a period when you may not be able to reach the dashboard—for example, travel, unreliable internet, illness, or a schedule disruption. Treat the allowance as emergency coverage rather than a substitute for daily participation: it is limited, does not provide the missed activity’s points, and does not guarantee coverage for every separate Rewards challenge, promotion, or app-specific streak. Microsoft’s documented feature concerns the Rewards daily streak; check the terms shown for any other activity.
The features were announced in 2024, not newly launched in 2026. Microsoft’s current Streak Protection page remains the clearest statement of the 14-day allowance; the account dashboard is the practical place to confirm whether the control and any Restore option are available to you.
